The Mahindra XUV300 was Mahindra's first foray into the sub-4 metre compact SUV market. It was intended to provide performance, safety, and premium features in a compact size. The XUV300 shares its platform with the SsangYong Tivoli, so it is built to be a very safe and stable (driving-wise) vehicle for that segment of the market when introduced. The XUV300's most significant differentiators from its rivals are its emphasis on both safety and performance, as opposed to being solely reliant on the high fuel economy or extensive list of features typically associated with this class of vehicles. With robust powertrains and one of the class-leading safety ratings of all sub-compact SUVs, it provides a more "substantial" and "driver-oriented" alternative to all of the feature-rich competitors within this segment.

The Mahindra XUV300 was always positioned as a more โdriver-focusedโ compact SUV. It prioritised performance and safety over flashy features, which helped it stand out in a crowded segment. The substantial feeling of comfort on the road made this car unique. The car was very solid, providing strong stability under all driving speeds, whereas many of its competitors felt very unstable and/or light.

"I love how the XUV300 looksโsturdy and sharp. The dual-zone climate control and steering modes are great features. But I wish Mahindra had added rear AC vents and improved the infotainment system speed."
"Excellent build quality and power delivery, especially from the diesel engine. Ride is smooth over potholes. Cabin space is decent, but three adults in the back can feel cramped. Good all-rounder for city and highway."
"The XUV300 surprised me with how planted and confidence-inspiring it feels on the highway. The diesel engine pulls effortlessly, and the cabin feels well-insulated. Safety features are top-notch. Could use a little more boot space though."
"The XUV300 stands out with its 5-star safety rating and stylish design. The cabin feels premium, and the ride quality is impressive. It's a great choice for those prioritizing safety and comfort."
"The XUV300 provides a great balance between performance and comfort. It handles the worst of road conditions and still has a lot of performance when required. The suspension has been designed specifically for Indian conditions"
"The XUV300 is value for money. It offers great engines, great safety and decent levels of equipment. It may not be the most glamorous of vehicles available but in real life it performs very well. "
"The car feels very strong and well built. You can feel the difference compared to lighter cars in this segment. It gives a sense of safety, especially on highways. The ride quality also feels stable and controlled. "
" The car is comfortable for daily use, but space can be a bit tight, especially in the rear seat. The boot space is also smaller compared to some competitors. For city use, it works fine though. "
"There's no doubt that the diesel engine is the highlight of this vehicle. On highways, it really delivers great power; overtaking is a breeze! With a full car load, I donโt feel that underpowering is an issue and that is one major reason why I selected this vehicle over others in its segment. "
The Mahindra XUV300 has been discontinued and replaced by the XUV 3XO. However, used models are available in the pre-owned car market.
