A two-wheeler challan is issued against your vehicle if you violate any traffic rules. Driving without a helmet, triple riding, speaking on the phone while driving, driving without a driving licence, and overspeeding are some of the common traffic challans issued against the bike owners. You can conduct a bike challan check online and clear it through online payment methods. These methods have been discussed in detail below.

Pending: Pending status means that the challan has not been cleared by the bike owner yet.
Under Review: This is a rare status that is seen when a traffic violation is reviewed by the traffic system or police department.
Paid: When you clear a bike challan, the status ‘Paid’ gets reflected in the traffic system within 48 working hours.
Court Challan: Severe traffic challans such as rash driving, accidents, etc. are referred to the magistrate court for hearing. You cannot settle the court challan online.
Disputed: If you are contesting the challan via a court hearing or through the e-Challan Parivahan’s grievance portal, the status ‘disputed’ will reflect on your screen.
It is not easy to avoid a bike challan once it gets issued. You will have to produce the documents that establish your innocence in front of the court or through a platform offered by e-Challan Parivahan. Both the online and offline payments of bike challan are discussed below:
A two-wheeler challan gets referred to the court only for severe traffic violations such as negligent driving, accidents, etc. It is not possible to settle the court challans online and you have to appear before the magistrate court to settle or contest against the challan. The following steps are required to be taken to close a bike challan through court:
Step 1: Note Down the Challan Details
The details regarding the court location or address along with the date and time of court hearing will be mentioned on the court challan itself. Note down these details and ensure that you’ll be present during the court hearing. If you do not attend the hearing, the court can issue a summon against you or suspend your vehicle licence permanently.
Step 2: Carry the Documents
When you attend the court hearing, ensure that you carry all the important vehicle documents such as Registration Certificate (RC), insurance papers, and driving licence of your two-wheeler with you. If you do not produce the necessary documents, an additional fine can be charged by the court. So, bring the original copies of these documents along with their self-attested photocopies.
Step 3: Appoint a Lawyer
If you do not want to pay the bike challan, you can also contest the court challan. For that, you must be able to produce the documents that prove your innocence. Both photographic and videographic evidence are accepted in the court these days, provided that they confirm your innocence.
You may also appoint an experienced lawyer to defend your case in the court. You can also contest your case yourself if you don’t want to bear the lawyer fees. Also, appointing a lawyer does not make sense if you want to settle the bike challan online after admitting your mistake before the court.
Step 4: Appear before the Magistrate
Appear before the magistrate by reaching the magistrate court on time. Accept your mistake before the judge or ask permission to establish your innocence. If the court accepts your evidence, the court challan will be cancelled and you don’t have to pay bike challan in cash or by any other means. If the court does not accept your evidence or finds you guilty, you can clear the bike challan online or via cash.
Step 5: Collect the Acknowledgement Receipt
Once you pay the two-wheeler challan online or in cash, you must also collect the acknowledgement receipt for the same.
You can also settle a bike challan in Lok Adalat if you want to reduce the fine or clear multiple challans at once. However, this facility is not provided for serious traffic violations leading to a court challan.
A bike challan can also be settled online through sites such as e-Challan Parivahan. The following steps need to be followed for paying the two-wheeler challan online:
Step 1: Start the online bike challan settlement process by visiting the e-Challan Parivahan’s official site. Upon opening this site on your mobile or web browser, you can search for the bike challan details by entering your vehicle registration number.
Step 2: When you enter the vehicle number, all the pending challans issued against your vehicle will be displayed on your screen. If you submit the challan number, the details pertaining to that specific challan will be visible on the screen.
Step 3: You can view the pending challans one-by-one and go through their details carefully. If you find any unfair challan imposed against your bike, you can contest it via the virtual courts or use the grievance section of the Parivahan site to submit your complaint.
Step 4: You can also settle multiple bike challans online through this site. Once you pay bike challan online through UPI, net banking, or credit/debit card, don’t forget to collect the payment receipt.
It will take some time for a pending challan to be settled even after clearing the payment. If your transaction is successful, you will see the status as ‘Processing’ against the challan. The transaction will be recorded in the system within 48 working hours after which the status will be reflected as ‘settled’. Therefore, downloading the acknowledgement number or receipt after making the online bike challan payment is important.
You can check your bike challan status with Spinny’s e-challan page, the e-Challan Parivahan website, or your state transport department's portal. You need to enter your vehicle registration number or challan number, and the OTP or captcha verification, and the pending challans will appear on your screen.
The reasons for bike challan include riding without a helmet, triple riding, using a phone while riding, riding without a valid driving licence, and overspeeding.
Yes. Both Spinny and e-Challan Parivahan let you view and clear all pending challans against your vehicle in one go. You can pay using UPI, net banking, or a credit/debit card.
After you clear the challan and complete the online payment. It will be updated to "Paid" or "Settled" within 48 working hours. Download and save the payment receipt or acknowledgement number for reference.
You can go through the grievance section of the e-Challan Parivahan website or through Virtual Courts. Present your evidence that shows the challan charged is incorrect.
A challan left pending for a long time is automatically forwarded to the Virtual Courts. You can still pay it online through the Virtual Courts website. If you want to contest it at that stage, you will have to appear in court in person.
