Steps to Check Challan Status & Pay Online in Kerala

Spinny

Offline

Visit the E-Challan Page

Go to the e-Challan section on the Spinny website or app. Enter your vehicle registration number to begin.

Visit the Court

If your challan is marked as a court challan, it must be settled at the judicial magistrate's court mentioned in the notice. Carry a valid ID proof like Aadhaar, a driving licence, or Voter ID.

Check your Challan

Click on ‘Check Challan’ to fetch all pending traffic challans linked to your registration number. If you're not logged in, you'll be prompted to verify via an OTP sent to your registered mobile number. Once verified, your challans will be displayed with complete details: offense type, date, and fine amount.

Appear on the Given Date

You’ll be given a summon date to appear in court. The judge will review the case, explain the violation, and decide the final payable amount. In some cases, the fine may be negotiable.

Make Payment

By default, all pending challans are automatically selected. You can select or deselect multiple challans as needed, then click on ‘Review Payment’ at the bottom. On the next screen, click ‘Pay Now’, choose your preferred payment method; UPI, Credit/Debit Card, or Net Banking, and complete the transaction securely through our payment gateway.

Make the Payment

After the hearing, you can pay the fine at the court's payment counter. Most courts accept cash, and some may offer digital payment options.

What is eChallan in Kerala?

Kerala issued over 1 crore traffic challans last year, which is 27,500 challans a day.  Most of these vehicle challans are never handed over by a police officer on the road. These e-challans are recorded by AI cameras, linked to the vehicle’s number plate, and sent directly to the owner’s registered mobile number. This is how e challan Kerala works.

An e challan in Kerala is a digital traffic challan linked to your vehicle’s registration number or driving license. Whether it's a missed helmet, a seat belt, or using a phone at a signal, these all turn into a Kerala traffic challan. That's why you should do a quick e-challan check in Kerala using your vehicle number on Spinny or the official Parivahan portal. This shows every pending challan with the challan details linked to your mobile number.

How to Check Vehicle Fine in Kerala with Vehicle Number?

Vehicle owners can do a challan check in Kerala online in two ways: Spinny and the official Parivahan eChallan portal. Both portals let you check challan online using just your vehicle registration number. Below are the steps you need to follow to do a e challan check by vehicle number:

  • Now, select all the challans you want to clear.

  • Complete the payment using UPI, credit/debit card, or net banking.

  • Download the receipt and track the status.

Bike Challan Check in Kerala

A bike challlan check in Kerala works the same way as a car challan check. With Spinny, you can do a challan check by entering your vehicle number and tap check challan. You can also use Parivahan challan Kerala services to search by vehicle number, challan number, or driving licence number. Since most two-wheeler fines are caught on AI cameras, you can also check challan with photo in Kerala to see the image of the recorded violation.

Two-wheeler riders are advised to check challan online regularly, as helmet violations are among the most common Kerala traffic challan offences. According to Kerala MVD data up to September 30, 2025, around 45.03 lakh cases were recorded against riders without helmets, plus 34.66 lakh against pillion riders without helmets and about 1.65 lakh for triple riding.

How to Pay e-Challan Offline in Kerala?

Don’t know how to make an online payment? You can also complete your e challan payment in Kerala offline by visiting the nearest traffic police station or RTO. Carry your challan documents, driving licence, and RC, pay at the counter, and keep the receipt as proof of challan payment. If you need help, some police stations also have e-challan facilities where officers can assist you in clearing your Kerala challan.

How to Dispute a Wrongly Issued e-Challan in Kerala?

An incorrect challan was issued linked to your mobile number. If yes, don’t pay it yet. A wrong challan can happen due to a misread number, a cloned plate, or a violation recorded after you sold the vehicle. Review the details of the traffic challan carefully. Below are  the steps to raise a dispute on the Parivahan portal:

  • Open the grievance page of the official Parivahan eChallan portal and verify using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

  • Select the type of grievance that matches your issue, such as a wrong vehicle number or a wrong violation.

  • Upload the supporting evidence, such as photos and documents, or something that proves the challan was wrongly issued.

  • Attach copies of your driving licence and RC for verification.

  • Submit the dispute and track your grievance status.

You can also raise a complaint about a Kerala traffic challan through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) portal or the Kerala Police Thuna portal, using a similar process.

Kerala Traffic Challan: Documents You Must Carry While Driving

Vehicle owners are required to carry some documents while driving in Kerala. Valid or expired documents are not the same as breaking traffic rules. You need to carry these documents to avoid a Kerala traffic challan during a routine check:

  • Valid Driving Licence: You should have a valid driving licence.

  • Registration Certificate (RC): Proof that your vehicle is legally registered.

  • Active Insurance Policy: At least third-party insurance is mandatory, and driving with expired insurance can lead to a heavy fine.

  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate: Renew it on time, as an expired PUC is an easy way to get a challan.

You need to keep digital copies in DigiLocker or the mParivahan app, as these are accepted during routine checks. Keep all documents up to date, and do a regular e challan check in Kerala to make sure no fines are pending against your vehicle.

Challan for Minors Driving in Kerala: Who Is Responsible?

If a minor person is caught driving in Kerala, the vehicle challan will be sent to the registered number, and the parents or guardian are held legally responsible. According to Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, the guardian or owner is considered guilty unless they can prove the vehicle was used without their knowledge.

  • Fine for guardian or owner: Up to ₹25,000.

  • Imprisonment: Up to 3 years.

  • Vehicle registration: The RC can be cancelled for 12 months.

  • Licence for the minor: Not eligible for a driving licence until age 25.

  • Trial of the minor: Handled under the Juvenile Justice Act.

This is considered one of the heaviest penalties under the MV Act,and Kerala enforces it strictly, especially for underage bike riders

Check Challans Before Buying or Selling a Used Vehicle

Traffic fines in Kerala are always linked to the vehicle’s registration number. This means when a used car or bike changes hands, any unpaid challans can become a problem for both the buyer and seller. A quick e challan check by vehicle number and paying it before closing the deal helps you avoid disputes and delays at the RTO.

If something's wrong

Ask the seller for payment receipts for any cleared challans.

If you get a challan dated after the sale, check challan with photo and raise a dispute.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about e-Challan in Kerala

An e-challan in Kerala is a digital traffic fine issued by the traffic police when a rule is violated - such as overspeeding, signal jumping, or missing documents. The system logs the violation and sends the challan details digitally, making e challan payment and tracking more convenient and transparent.

If you fail to pay your challan in Kerala, the traffic department may issue a virtual court summons. Unpaid challans can lead to late fees, licence suspension, or even vehicle seizure in Kerala. It's best to perform a challan check online and pay on time.

The e challan system in Kerala is fully digitized. Traffic violations are detected via CCTV or speed cameras, and the system auto-generates an e challan linked to your vehicle number. The fine details are updated in the database, and you're notified via SMS/email. You can then check your e challan and pay online through trusted portals.

Spinny provides its challan-payment flow through its website and app and supports common digital payment methods including UPI, debit/credit card, and net banking. Always access Spinny or the official government portal directly rather than following an unknown payment link received through an unsolicited message. Parivahan itself warns users about fraudulent websites and apps impersonating eChallan services.

To pay your traffic challan in Kerala, visit our online challan check service. Both platforms allow you to verify challan status and complete payment securely.

If you believe an e challan in Kerala was issued in error, you can file a complaint by writing to [email protected]. Include your challan number, vehicle details, and supporting proof like timestamped photos or GPS logs.

On Spinny, enter your vehicle registration number on the Kerala e-Challan page and select Check Challan. On the government Parivahan portal, select the vehicle-number search option, enter the required details and CAPTCHA, and select Get Details.

Enter the motorcycle or scooter registration number on Spinny to carry out a bike challan check. You can also use Parivahan and search using the challan number, vehicle registration number, er or driving license number. There is no separate government challan-search system just for two-wheelers.

Yes. The official Parivahan eChallan portal provides DL Number as one of its challan-search options alongside challan number and vehicle number.

If the case has been forwarded to Virtual Court, eligible cases can be searched through the Virtual Court system. The portal allows motorists to view the case and either pay the fine where permitted or request to contest it. Do not pay the same challan through both Virtual Court and Parivahan.

Remember, official e challan Kerala links always end with gov.in, and government portals never ask you to download an APK file or share your OTP. If a message looks suspicious, do an e challan check by vehicle number on Parivahan or Spinny to confirm it. You can report fake messages by calling 1930 or visiting cybercrime.

Yes, Kerala traffic challans that have been sent to court can often be settled at National Lok Adalat sessions, sometimes at a reduced amount. Regular pending challans are usually paid directly online or offline. Check your e challan details for a “Sent to Court” status and watch for Lok Adalat notices from KeLSA.
