Wagon R is a 5 seater compact hatchback that comes with the 5-door design. Its tallboy design and heavy cladding gives it an SUVish kind of look. The fuel tank capacity of Wagon R is 32 litres whereas its ground clearance is only 165 mm. Adjustable ORVMs, multiple storage pockets, comfortable seats, and power windows are some of its noticeable features and technical specs. More details have been covered below.
Wagon R new models come with two petrol engines and the CNG option is also available. The petrol models are equipped with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. The CNG variants only come with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Wagon R delivers a mileage of up to 24.43 kmpl for petrol variants and the CNG variants deliver a mileage of up to 34 km/kg. The high fuel-efficiency of the Wagon R car makes it the first option for many car buyers in India. The performance of Wagon R is decent in the city but highway overtakes need to be planned because its engine does not generate enough power and torque which are essential for speedy overtakes on the highway.
While the older variants of Wagon R feel rigid, the cushioning of the seats have been improved significantly in the newer variants. The interior looks basic but the overall experience becomes comfortable for the rear passengers due to generous headroom and legroom. 5 people can be easily accommodated in Wagon R because it is designed on the HEARTEC platform that maximises knee room and legroom for the rear passengers.
Up to 6 airbags are provided in the higher variants along with features such as ESC, ABS, EBD, and rear parking sensors. Engine immobiliser, child-safety locks, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, and 3-point seatbelt for all the passengers are provided in this car. However, the poor safety test rating of 1-star from Global NCAP raises concerns over its build-quality and overall structural integrity.
A bootspace of 340 litres is available across the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R variants. The long wheelbase of 2435 mm ensures sufficient legroom to the rear passengers. The ground clearance of 165 mm is sufficient in the city but may create problems while navigating deep potholes and steep speed breakers in the rural parts of the country.
7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity options, power windows, and steering-mounted audio controls are the best features of Wagon R cars.

However, buyers like me prefer this car because of its top-notch fuel-efficiency and cabin comfort. It does feel special to drive this car as it is one of the easiest cars to drive in India. "
"My driving experience with Wagon R has always been perfect because of its easy-handling and smooth ride-quality. If we control the speed and gears perfectly, you won’t experience any body roll on the highway. Also, the spacious interior and tallboy design makes the cabin look quite bigger than it actually is. Overall, it is a great car, especially for small families. "
"I like the tall and upright stance of Wagon R. Bought it in 2018 and still love to drive it smoothly across the city. Though it is not as feature-packed, it is one of the dependable cars that delivers great mileage in any road condition. "
"Bought Wagon R ZXi manual model in 2022. I must say that it felt like a dream back then because I always felt that this car was different from the other cars in the lineup of Maruti. Over the years, I’ve understood why this car is special. It holds extra storage and comes with a decent bootspace. Kids can literally sleep in the rear seat and travel comfortably during long trips. It is still one of the best family cars in India. "
