The much-awaited all-new Tekton has now been launched in India by Nissan, which adds to the options available for buyers in this popular midsize SUV segment. The Tekton, which is based on the same platform as the Renault Duster but gets its own styling and character, starts from Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Boasts a bold and rugged design, more up-to-date tech and two new turbo-petrol engines targeting a broader audience.
Bookings for the Nissan Tekton across India have now been opened, and the company has confirmed that deliveries will commence from July 20.
Powertrain Options and Performance Figures
The Nissan Tekton is offered with the option of two turbo-petrol engines, and both of these are shared with the Renault Duster. However, Nissan has confirmed that the 1.8-litre strong hybrid engine expected on the Duster later this year will not be offered with the Tekton.
1.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine
This entry-level motor is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit with outputs of 100hp and 166 Nm of torque. It’s also offered exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Regarding performance, the Tekton will get from 0 to 100kph in 12.46 seconds. Nissan claims a fuel efficiency of 19.4kpl, making it the most economical option in the lineup. This engine is suitable for buyers looking for a practical SUV for daily commuting and occasional highway trips.
1.3-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine
The other choice for buyers looking for more performance is from a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol unit. It produces 163hp and 280 Nm of torque, allowing better acceleration and highway performance.
You get this engine with two transmissions:
- 6-speed manual gearbox
- 6-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) gearbox
The manual option sprints from 0-100kph in 9.51 seconds and is also claimed to deliver the same mileage (17.8kpl). The automatic DCT variant does the same sprint in 9.89 seconds and returns a claimed efficiency of just over 18.5kpl, better but still good enough for an impressive figure.
So the 1.3-litre is definitely better for buyers more performance-orientated, whilst the 1.0-litre engine focuses more on fuel efficiency and everyday usability.

Rugged Design Aesthetics & Proportions
Nissan has styled the Tekton to appear tough and off-roady, as if it were an SUV based on the Nissan Patrol. The striking and squarish design of the Tekton does lend it a more commanding road presence compared to the Renault Duster.
Up front, the SUV is outfitted with a large grille flanked by chrome elements and narrow LED headlights, as well as a unique C-shaped LED daytime running light signature that spans the width of the vehicle. The DRLs sit above a body line that features an attention-grabbing red accent strip below it, while the fabric covering the hood bears a badge reading “Tekton.”
Thanks to its large windows and elongated design, the new Tekton shares familiar SUV dimensions when viewed from the side, but it also boasts several bespoke styling touches. Among the other tweaks are 18-inch alloy wheels, more pronounced wheel arches, silver trim on the front doors, and C-pillar-integrated rear door handles for a cleaner appearance.
The rear gets an upright body-coloured tailgate, a full-width LED light bar, roof-mounted spoiler and a dual-tone bumper with silver skid-plate-style treatment that completes its rugged look.
