With FASTag, you can roam around the country without worrying about toll payments. The electronic toll deduction facilitated by the FASTag makes your journeys smooth and hassle-free. However, if you don’t update your FASTag KYC on time, the convenience might not last for a long time. As per the RBI rules, it is mandatory for all the vehicle owners to complete the KYC verification for their FASTag card. If you don’t do it, your FASTag card may be blocked temporarily or forever. In this blog, we will learn how to complete the KYC verification for your Paytm FASTag card.

What is FASTag KYC, and why is it important?

FASTag KYC means mapping your FASTag with your identity proof, vehicle, and address proof. It is also known as full KYC because after this procedure, it is not necessary to complete any other verification steps. Completing this verification leads to unrestricted use of the FASTag card across the country. It saves your time and effort while driving through the national highways. Also, you can top-up your FASTag card without any limit after completing this verification process.

Types of FASTag KYC

When you activate the FASTag card with a few documents such as the Registration Certificate (RC) of your vehicle and Aadhaar Card, it is known as partial or minimal KYC. Upon FASTag activation, you must also provide your Proof Of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents. This process is known as full KYC. Check the below table to understand the subtle differences between full KYC and minimal KYC clearly:

Documents Required for Paytm FASTag KYC

Here are the documents required for completing the Paytm FASTag KYC verification:

  1. Proof of Identity: Submit any of the identity proofs such as Passport, voter’s ID, driving licence, or Pan Card.
  2. Proof of Address: Any document that verifies your address such as utility bill, Aadhaar Card, etc. also needs to be submitted for KYC verification.
  3. Vehicle Photographs: The photographs of your vehicle including the front, side, and rear images must also be submitted. The front and back vehicle number plates must be clearly visible in the photographs. Also, one of the photos must also clearly depict the windshield of your car with the FASTag attached to it from the inner side.

Apart from these documents, you must also submit one of your passport-sized photographs. These documents can be uploaded online during the Paytm FASTag KYC verification.

How to Update Paytm FASTag KYC Online?

Follow these steps to update the Paytm FASTag KYC process online:

  • Step 1: Open the Paytm app and login with your registered mobile number. Locate the search bar and type ‘Paytm KYC’. Upon searching this, you will find ‘Paytm Payments Bank’ in one of the options. Tap on this option.
  • Step 2: Upon tapping, you will find the option of video KYC. Tap on this option to initiate the video KYC process.
  • Step 3: Enter your Aadhaar Card number and name and be ready with all the above mentioned documents.
  • Step 4: The video KYC will start and you need to complete all the steps one-by-one as suggested on the screen. Once you complete these steps, your documents will be verified and the verification status will be displayed on the screen shortly thereafter.

If you want to complete the KYC verification offline, you can visit one of the KYC centres near your house and submit all your documents.

Paytm FASTag KYC Charges

Paytm does not charge anything for updating the KYC status from minimal to full KYC. However, a one-time issuance fee of Rs. 100 is charged for the FASTag activation during the first time. Also, a security deposit ranging from Rs. 200 to Rs. 500 will be charged depending upon your vehicle class.

How to Check Paytm FASTag KYC Status?

The below steps will help you determine your Paytm FASTag KYC status:

  • Open the Paytm app and login with your registered mobile number. Search for ‘Paytm KYC’ using the search bar of the app. Now, choose the ‘Paytm Payments Bank’.
  • Finally, you will see the KYC status on the screen. If a blue tick appears before your name, it indicates your KYC verification is complete.

If you’ve submitted the documents recently, a pending, approved, or rejected status might reflect on the screen. Pending means that the KYC verification is still under process whereas approved means that KYC verification is complete and successful. If the rejected status appears, it means that your verification request has been rejected for inaccurate details, unclear photos, or any other technical reason.

What Happens if FASTag KYC is Not Updated?

If the FASTag KYC is not updated, your Paytm FASTag card will be either suspended or blocked. After this, you shall not be able to clear the toll fee digitally. This means that you’d have to pay at the toll lanes by cash. Non-FASTag payments attract double toll fees and this would lead to extra toll deduction at all the toll plazas across the country.

Common Issues While Updating KYC & Fixes

The common issues faced by customers while updating their Paytm FASTag KYC status are mentioned below:

Inaccurate Details

All the details on your documents including your name, date of birth, address, etc. should match perfectly. Any inconsistency or mismatch will result in rejection of your KYC verification request.

To avoid this, ensure that your details across the documents are consistent and accurate. If they are not consistent, update them first and then upload the documents for KYC verification.

Slow Internet

Slow internet might create issues while completing the video KYC process. So, ensure that your internet speed is stable and fast before initiating the video KYC procedure.

Expired Documents

If any of your documents are found to be invalid or expired during the KYC verification, your FASTag KYC verification request will be rejected. For instance, if you present your driving licence as identity proof but it has already expired, your KYC verification request will be rejected. To avoid this, confirm that all your documents are valid and well within the expiry date range.
