Since 2019, Hyundai has rejuvenated its attack in the SUV segment with two very successful cars. The Hyundai Venue introduced a new take on the compact SUV formula while the completely redesigned Hyundai Creta looks to continue Hyundai’s success. Hyundai has now announced the name of its upcoming 7 seater SUV, calling it the Hyundai Alcazar.

Hyundai Alcazar expected specifications

So far, Hyundai has not revealed much apart from the name of the new 7 seater SUV. However, reports suggest that the Alcazar will be based on the same platform as the new Hyundai Creta. It does appear that Hyundai is taking cues from Tata’s playbook in turning their popular 5 seater SUV into a more spacious SUV.

In terms of design, you can expect the same split headlamp design that is on the new Hyundai Creta. There will be a few flourishes throughout the car’s exterior to differentiate the Alcazar from the Creta. This will undoubtedly be focused on the rear of the car, which will be lengthened to accommodate a third row.

Hyundai panoramic sunroof

The features on the Hyundai Alcazar will be what truly differentiates it from the Creta. With more space inside, you can expect the option of captain seats in the middle row on some variants to offer a more executive-like passenger experience. Sunroofs are also becoming standard in this segment and you can expect to see a large panoramic sunroof featuring on the Alcazar. The dashboard will also see a redesign, with a larger floating infotainment display combined with an all-digital instrument cluster, like we’ve seen on the new Hyundai i20.

Why is Hyundai bringing a 7 seater SUV?

So far, Hyundai has avoided bringing any of its 7 seater SUVs to India, choosing to offer 5 seater SUVs in its lineup. The lack of a 7 seater SUV combined with the large gap between the Creta and Hyundai Tucson, means there is plenty of space for a premium 7 seater SUV from Hyundai. The expected price of the Hyundai Alcazar could start from ₹14 lakhs and go up to ₹20 lakhs.

The Hyundai Alcazar will slot in below the Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai will also be keen on taking advantage of the recent growth in interest for 7 seater SUVs in India. With the likes of the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus offering great value and utility, there is a market to be catered to. Hyundai’s tech-focused Alcazar will be an able competitor to challenge the other 7 seater SUVs in the market.

Hints from Hyundai’s global lineup

Apart from the name, the Hyundai Alcazar is shrouded in mystery as to what a 7 seater Hyundai car would look like. For some clues, we looked at Hyundai’s global lineup to see how well Hyundai can build a 7 seater SUV.

Hyundai Santa Fe interior
The Hyundai Santa Fe incorporates a 7 seater setup

In terms of physical dimensions, the closest Hyundai 7 seater SUV is the Hyundai Santa Fe, which comes in at 4.7 meters in length. What is evident from the Santa Fe is that is a 5 seater SUV that has been elongated to a include a third row. This is something that is expected for the Alcazar as well.

Hyundai Palisade interior
The digital displays and passenger experience could be inherited from the Palisade

In terms of features, Hyundai could bring the interior experience of the Palisade down to the Alcazar. This would include the 8-inch infotainment display that would flow into the digital instrument cluster. Also akin to the Palisade, the Alcazar can be expected to feature premium leatherette upholstery to provide a luxurious passenger experience.
