In terms of car sales, July was a month to recover for many of the models while also being a time for some models to make gains on the sales charts. As more cars become more readily available, car buyers are taking deliveries of their new cars. With many buyers anticipating new launches from Maruti Suzuki, there are some interesting insights to gather from the top selling list. Here are the top 10 selling cars in India in July 2022, according to AutoPunditz.
Top 10 Selling Cars in India:
Units Sold in July 2022
Units Sold in June 2022
1. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R continues to retain its place at the top of the sales chart for another month. The Wagon R received a minor update in 2022, which has helped it sell 22,588 units in July. Fuel efficiency, spacious interiors and a very affordable price make this a very hard to beat hatchback in terms of sheer value.
2. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno remains the best selling premium hatchback in India, with 17,960 units sold in July. In comparison, the Baleno’s closest competitor is the Hyundai i20, which sold just 6,873 units, putting the Maruti premium hatchback’s popularity into perspective. The introduction of the second generation has made the Baleno a very irresistible car to buy.
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift
17,539 Maruti Suzuki Swifts took to the road in July and has helped Maruti claim the top three spots on the list. The Swift has always been a popular car for Maruti and has become something of an icon on Indian roads.
4. Tata Nexon
Tata Nexon is the best selling compact SUV in India with 14214 units sold in July 2022. Even with the launch of the new Maruti Brezza and updated Hyundai Venue, the Nexon is able to retain its position on the list thanks to its feature package and 5-star G-NCAP safety rating.
5. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
While its success can be attributed to the commercial sector, there is no denying that the Maruti Dzire is the best-selling sedan in India. 13,747 Dzires were added to our roads last month and the compact sedan remains the only sedan to feature in the top 10 best-seller list.
6. Maruti Suzuki Eeco
Another car that owes its place on the list to the commercial sector. The Maruti Eeco sold 13,048 units in July, highlighting the practicality and versatility of this car, which brings the capability to carry people and packages while still delivering on mileage.
7. Hyundai Creta
Long waiting periods and the launch of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder have affected the Hyundai Creta’s sales figures in July. Selling 12,625 units last month sees the midsize SUV slip to seventh on the list. These are still healthy numbers for the Creta, which remains the best selling midsize SUV in India.
8. Hyundai Venue
While the Creta experienced a slight dip, its smaller sibling, the Hyundai Venue sees a healthy jump to 12,000 units sold in July. The new facelift update has improved the Venue’s exterior design, making it bolder than the previous model. There is still a lot of ground to cover to catchup to the Nexon but the updated Venue appears to be ready for the challenge.
9. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
Usually, it is the Maruti Alto that stays in the top selling list. However, July saw the S-Presso replace the Alto, selling 11,628 units. This can be attributed to two reasons. The first is that the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is the second most fuel efficient petrol car in India with its 25.30 kmpl mileage. The second is the news of the upcoming update to the Maruti Alto that will receive a fresh new design as well as a new fuel efficient engine. Expect to see the Alto return to this list to reclaim its place.
10. Tata Punch
The Tata Punch recently achieved 1 lakh units sold since launch and the 11,007 units sold in July definitely contributed to this milestone. Its compact dimensions, strong road presence, 5-star safety rating, and sophisticated feature package have made it a great value-for-money compact SUV and it will be interesting to see if the Punch can climb its way up the list.
