With 3.9 lakh passenger cars sold, the automotive sector saw a good 7.7% increase in monthly sales. With a buoyant festive demand tempting the market, Maruti Suzuki performed exceptionally well, emerging as the crown jewel of the automotive industry ruling over 43% of the entire market. With as many as six Maruti cars making their way into the top ten charts, it was the WagonR that emerged as the ultimate winner. Powering the WagonR are two highly refined and efficient engines that include a 1.2-litre and a 1-litre unit, both of which come mated to a five-speed manual/AMT. What makes the WagonR a true success story is its impeccable efficiency of up to 25.19 km/l on petrol and 34.05 km/kg on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Gaining two places, the Maruti Suzuki Swift emerged as the second best-selling car of the month, with an astonishing performance that saw the hatchback selling as many as 20,598 units in October 2023, with a 20% year-on-year growth. With a legacy of over 18 years, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has already wooed over 25 lakh happy Indians; a feat that is unimaginable in many ways. The Swift’s exhilarating driving dynamics, power-packed engine and high efficiency make the hatchback a worthy choice for those looking to bring home a hatchback that feels swift on the road and light on the pockets. In terms of power, the Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual and an optional AMT for a convenient ride. With mileage figures as high as 22.56 km/l for petrol and 30.90 km/kg for CNG, the Swift is a superb option, especially in the 6 to 10 Lakh price bracket, where it absolutely dominates.

Nonetheless, the credit for Baleno’s recent success goes to its upgraded feature list that now includes a premium Arkamys sound system, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, along with bold new exteriors. 

Equipped with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno offers a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT automatic for a comfortable ride. All this comes topped with an impressive mileage figure of 22.94 km/l on petrol and 30.61 km/kg on CNG, making the Baleno a value-for-money premium hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The second generation of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has truly elevated the compact SUV’s charm. Selling 16,050 units in October 2023, the SUV capitalised on the month’s festivities with a huge 61% year-on-year growth proudly managing to become the fourth best-selling Maruti car and the second best-selling compact SUV of the month.

Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that is tastefully mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza now offers mild hybrid tech only onboard the automatic trims that return a mileage of up to 20.15 km/l, while for the manual trims, the mileage is up to 17.38 km/l/ Additionally, the Brezza can also be had in CNG trims with mileage of up to 25.51 km/kg for maximum savings.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

With 14,699 units sold in the festive month of October 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire became the best-selling sedan of the month, in addition to being the fifth best-selling Maruti car of the month with an impressive 19% year-on-year growth, proving that sedans are here to stay, despite the SUV craze. Nonetheless, what made the Dzire shine amongst all sedans, is its value-for-money package coupled with great comfort and high efficiency, a decent pack of features and spacious interiors. However, considering the staggering growth of the compact sedan segment as a whole, a wholesome upgrade to the Dzire can truly add some spice to the game.

Being the sedan version of the Swift hatchback, the Dzire also comes powered with a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that is tastefully mated to a five-speed manual/AMT. Efficiency figures of the Dzire go as high as 22.61 km/l for petrol and 31.12 km/kg for CNG.

With this, the Ertiga made a solid comeback becoming the sixth best-selling Maruti car and the eighth best-selling car of the month, for the third time in a row.

Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, the MUV is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. But what makes the Ertiga a massive success is its pocket-friendly efficiency of 20.3 km/l for petrol and 26.11 km/kg for CNG, making it one of the most efficient seven-seater cars in India.

With this, the Eeco proudly became the seventh best-selling Maruti car overtaking legends like the Alto, which is a testament to the MUV’s undying popularity. Equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a sole 5-speed manual gearbox, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco delivers a mileage of 19.71 km/l from petrol and 26.78 km/kg from CNG.

The latest launch from Maruti, the Fronx has been a raging success, especially in terms of sales. Topped with Maruti’s latest design language, the crossover SUV offers a premium cabin loaded with a plethora of features such as a 360-degree camera, heads-up display, wireless charging etc. But what makes the Fronx quite an appealing option is its aggressive pricing and exciting yet efficient powertrains. Selling 11,357 units in its seventh month, the Fronx is on a great run indeed, becoming the eighth best-selling Maruti car and the fifth best-selling compact SUV of the month.

Offered with two engine choices; a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology and a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol unit, the former comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, while the latter comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The mileage on offer is superb with the turbo petrol returning up to 21.5 km/l and the naturally aspirated unit returning 22.89 km/l.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Nonetheless, the Alto managed to sell 11,200 units in October 2023 with a huge 47% decline in year-on-year performance which is a direct outcome of the huge void left by the discontinuation of the Alto 800. With this the Also closed in as the ninth best-selling Maruti car of the month.

In terms of engine, with the Alto 800 discontinued, Maruti’s hatchback range now starts with the Alto K10, which offers a 1-litre K-Series Petrol engine mated to a five-speed AMT along with the manual. Mileage on offer is up to 24.90 km/l on petrol and up to 33.85 km/kg on CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

A threat to the Hyundai Creta’s undisputed charm over the market, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara comes forth as a capable SUV that is feature-rich, premium, spacious and comfortable. Offering a first-in-segment strong hybrid powertrain and an all-wheel drive system, the Grand Vitara has impressed many. Completing its first glorious year in September 2023, the Grand Vitara sold 10,834 units in October 2023, to emerge as the tenth best-selling Maruti car in addition to being the fourth best-selling SUV of the month, with an impressive 35% year-on-year growth.

Engine-wise, Grand Vitara can be had with a 1.5-litre mild hybrid unit with a five-speed manual or a six-speed AMT or a 1.5-litre strong hybrid unit that comes with a sole e-CVT automatic onboard. In terms of mileage, the Grand Vitara stands as the most fuel-efficient car in its segment with a mileage of 20.58 km/l with the mild hybrid and 27.97 km/l with the strong hybrid.
