Citroen has globally unveiled the Citroen Basalt Vision concept, which is an all-new coupe SUV from the French carmaker. The Basalt is the fourth car under the brand’s C-Cubed programme after the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross SUV. Essentially the coupe avatar of the C3 Aircross, the Basalt is underpinned by the same platform and carries many similarities in terms of design and features. Slated to be launched in the second half of 2024, the Basalt will be produced in India and will also be exported to South American markets. Citroen Basalt: Design
The SUV looks striking and since the dimensions are not expected to vary much from those of the C3 Aircross, the Basalt will be nearly 4,300 mm long. Like the C3 Aircross, the Basalt features the split chromed grille finished split headlamp setup. Notably, the Basalt gets projector headlamps instead of the halogen units of the C3 Aircross. The side profile, however, is sportier than that of the C3 Aircross due to the sloping coupe-like roofline, squared-off wheel arches, pinched window line, side body cladding and stylish dual-tone gun-metal coloured alloy wheels. At the rear, the panels are clean with stubby wraparound tail lamps, a chunky dual-tone bumper finished in black and silver, and a high-positioned boot lid. While the tail lamps are designed much like those of the C3 Aircross they are larger and feature new LED signatures.

Citroen Basalt: Interior & Features
While the interior of the Basalt has not been revealed, it is expected to carry the dashboard from the C3 Aircross and come with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Moreover, the Basalt is also expected to be equipped with some more features such as electric folding wing mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charger, push-button start/stop feature, and keyless entry. These features have not been included so far in any of the C-Cubed models but are expected to be offered with the Basalt.
On the safety front, the Basalt is expected to come with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
Citroen Basalt: Engine & Transmission
Since the Basalt is expected to share its powertrains with the C3 Aircross, it could come with the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 110 PS power and 205 Nm torque and is mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed torque converter automatic. Citroen will also bring an all-electric version of the Basalt that will join the line-up nearly six months after the petrol-powered version gets launched.
Citroen Basalt: Price, Launch, & Rivals
Citroen will launch the Basalt in the second half of 2024 at the expected starting price of Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). While the Basalt will directly rival the upcoming Tata Curvv, it will also be an alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and Honda Elevate.
