Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited Tata Sierra EV at a starting price of Rs. 18.79 lakh. Unlike what it looks like, the Tata Sierra EV is not an electrified version of the Tata Sierra, and is built on Tata’s most advanced dedicated EV platform, Acti.ev+, which also underpins the Tata Harrier EV. The Tata Sierra EV shares most of its design with the Tata Sierra and powertrains, including the battery pack, with the larger Tata Harrier EV.

The Tata Sierra EV shares its powertrain options with the Tata Harrier EV. Moreover, like the Harrier EV AWD, the Sierra EV AWD comes with off-roading-specific features, for example, six terrain modes (Normal, Grass/Snow, Mud/Gravel, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom), low-speed cruise control, and a 540-degree camera (360-degree surround with underfloor view). With Boost mode, the Tata Sierra EV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr in 5.8 seconds.

In terms of charging, a 7.2 kW wall box AC charger can charge the 63 kWh battery from 10% to 100% in 8.9 hours, and for the 75 kWh battery, it can do the same in 10.5 hours. Moreover, using a 120 kW fast charger, the Sierra EV can be topped up to a 263 km range in 15 minutes, and 20% to 80% in 26 minutes.

Tata Sierra EV: Dimensions and Design

The Tata Sierra EV is 4,340 mm long, 1,841 mm wide, 1,715 mm tall, and has a 2,730 mm long wheelbase and 205 mm ground clearance. Moreover, it gets 622-litre boot space, a 55-litre frunk in rear-wheel-drive variants, and a 35-litre frunk in all-wheel-drive variants.

As mentioned, the Tata Sierra EV is designed largely similar to the Tata Sierra, and there are some minor distinctions to make it identifiable as an electric SUV. Up front, the Tata Sierra EV features a concealed body-coloured grille section, instead of the gloss-black grille which is there on the Tata Sierra. However, like the Sierra, the Sierra EV gets a slim full-width light bar connecting the LED DRLs, and LED headlamps vertically stacked lower down on the bumper. Moreover, the gloss black trim on the bumper and the silver skid plate add some contrast at the front end,

The side profile highlights the Sierra’s tall and boxy silhouette, large window glass, body coloured B-pillar and blacked-out C- and D-pillars to mimic the ‘Alpine Window,’ which was there on the original Sierra. The Sierra EV sits on 18-inch alloy wheels and 19-inch alloy wheels in higher variants. Like the side profile, the rear is the same as the Sierra, with a wide and upright tailgate and a full-width LED bar connecting LED tail lamps. Moreover, it gets the EV-specific badging and lettering.

The Tata Sierra EV is offered in the same exterior colour options as the Tata Sierra. These include Bengal Rouge, Andaman Adventure, Pristine White, Coorg Cloud, and Pure Grey. However, the Sierra EV gets two additional colour themes, Nainital Nocturne (same as the Harrier EV) and Rishikesh Rapids (New), which are not available with the Sierra.

Tata Sierra EV: Interior and Features

Like the exterior, the Tata Sierra EV shares most of its interior with the Tata Sierra. The clean and modern-looking dashboard is garbed with a nice mix of soft-touch materials, and it features a triple-screen setup, consisting of a 12.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch screen for the front passenger. The four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, centre console with a touch-sensitive gloss black panel for HVAC, and slim AC vents have all been carried over from the Tata Sierra.

In terms of features, the Tata Sierra EV packs 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch front passenger entertainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated and 6-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function, Boss mode, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, rear sunshades, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display (HUD), a wireless phone charger, a NFC card key, an air purifier, powered tailgate with gesture control, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, and more.

From the Tata Harrier EV, the Tata Sierra EV borrows Summon Mode, DrivePay (in-car payment feature), and auto-park assist. Moreover, the Sierra EV also gets some EV-specific functions like V2L (Vehicle-to-load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-load).

For safety equipment, the Tata Sierra EV gets six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX child anchorages, all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, and a Level-2 ADAS safety suite.
