Honda WR-V is the epitome of sporty looks, fuel efficiency, and practicality, making it the most sought-after vehicle for car enthusiasts across India and other countries. However, the changing dynamics of the automotive industry call for the most crucial aspect to be considered while purchasing a new vehicle: the safety standards. People are looking for the safety standards of the vehicle and the protection it can offer to the occupants in case of a crash.

Although the Honda WR-V’s Global and Bharat NCAP ratings have not been officially published, the model has received varied results across international safety programs. The Latin NCAP gave the Honda WR-V 1-star ratings, while the same car received 5-star ratings from the ASEAN NCAP program.

Honda WR-V NCAP Safety Rating

The safety ratings for the Honda WR-V have been different in different countries. To give a better example, the Honda WR-V received a safety rating of 5 stars from the ASEAN NCAP safety rating in 2022. This information shows that the Honda WR-V possesses good crashworthiness and safety ratings. The vehicle also comes equipped with the latest safety features from Honda: Honda Sensing Suite.

The Honda WR-V scored a total of 77.07 points in the ASEAN NCAP safety rating. The points are divided as follows:

  • 15.58 points for safety assist
  • 10.45 points for motorcyclist safety
  • 34.26 points for adult occupant protection
  • 16.78 points for child occupant protection.

Also, the Honda WR-V received a safety rating of 5 stars under the JNCAP (Japan) Rating. However, the Honda WR-V scored only 1 star from the Latin NCAP test.

The reason for the low rating of the Honda WR-V is the older version of the vehicle, which did not come equipped with any safety features, such as side airbags and ESC. These regional variations demonstrate that the specifications and safety packages offered can vary widely in their impact on safety performance across markets.

Honda WR-V Adult Occupant Protection Rating

The Honda WR-V scored 41.03%, or 16.41 in the adult occupant protection test, which shows that the vehicle can improve in terms of passenger safety. In the crash test, the head and neck of the driver and front passenger were rated good, but the chest area received only adequate protection. The knees of the driver and front passenger received minimal protection due to the risk of hitting something behind the grille.

The footwell and bodyshell of the vehicle were rated stable, with the tibias of the driver being adequately protected and the tibias of the passenger being well protected. In the side impact test, the doors and the vehicle’s side structures provided reasonable protection, but the chest area remained a problem, showing that the structural integrity of the crossover is good, but certain areas need more improvement.

Honda WR-V Child Occupant Protection Rating

The Honda WR-V scored 40.66%, or 19.92 in the child occupant protection test, which shows that the vehicle can improve in terms of child safety. In the test, the child restraint systems for 3-year-olds scored well in the side-impact test.

The vehicle, however, failed to comply with the I-size standard and had issues with the compatibility of the child safety systems. Additionally, in the side impact test, the vehicle provided adequate protection for the head, abdomen, and pelvis, while chest protection was minimal.

Overall, the test results indicate that while the crossover provides reasonable protection for children, improvements in child restraint system (CRS) compatibility and chest protection could enhance overall child safety.
