Tata Motors has launched the Tata Punch facelift at a starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the most comprehensive update of the Punch since its launch in 2021. The new Tata Punch’s design is largely inspired by the Tata Punch EV, and it also offers a turbo petrol engine for the first time. The Tata Punch is one of the best-selling and most successful cars in India. As its predecessor has etched its name in the history books, let’s take a closer look at what the new Tata Punch has to offer.

New 2026 Tata Punch: Design

Following their current tradition, Tata Motors has designed the new Tata Punch to look much like the Tata Punch EV, as is the case with the other Tata cars and their electric counterparts. At the front end, the vertically oriented trapezoidal headlights are the same as those on the Punch EV; however, the bumper is blacked out, while the Punch EV gets a body-coloured bumper. The bumper also houses an air dam, unlike the electric version. The other dissimilarity with the Punch EV is the black band between the signature LED DRLs; the Punch EV gets a full-width LED strip. The side profile is largely the same as before, with the only change being the new 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the Punch features new connected LED tail lamps and a revised bumper.

New 2026 Tata Punch: Interior and Features

On the inside, not much has changed, although interiors are like those of the Tata Nexon. Meanwhile, there are a few new elements, for example, a new 2-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, a gloss black panel housing touch-sensitive HVAC controls, a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster, and an updated 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also new are the seats with dual-tone grey and blue upholstery.

In terms of features, the new Tata Punch also offers a 360-degree camera and hill descent control, along with its previous feature list, which includes automatic climate control, cruise control, a 6-speaker Harman sound system, keyless entry with push-button start, a single-pane sunroof, and more.

For safety equipment, the new Punch offers 6 airbags (as standard), ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and more. The new Tata Punch has scored a full 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP safety test.

New 2026 Tata Punch: Engine and Transmission

The new Punch carries forward the powertrains from the outgoing model. This includes a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which produces 88 PS of power and 73.5 PS of power (CNG), along with peak torques of 115 Nm and 103 Nm (CNG). The transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. With the new Punch, Tata is also offering the CNG models with AMT.  Moreover, a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine has been introduced, which also powers the Tata Nexon. This engine produces 120 PS power and 170 Nm peak torque, and is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Tata has added this engine to address the complaints of buyers who found the Punch underpowered. Moreover, the reason this engine is perhaps not available with an automatic transmission is that such a powertrain would have made the Punch pricier and overlap the lower variants of the Tata Nexon.
