For family ownership purposes, the MG Hector is one of the best SUVs under Rs 25 lakh, even though its sales figures do not show the same. It is rich in tech and comfort and offers the premium experience that can put cars cost twice as much to shame. Recently, MG Motor has facelifted Hector in a bid to boost its sales. However, you may face the question of whether to buy a new or used one. New MG Hector: Quick Overview

While the MG Hector lineup consists of 5, 6, and 7-seater models, for now, MG has launched only 5- and 7-seater variants only. The 6-seater and 7-seater models are named ‘MG Hector Plus.’ Like other MG cars, the Hector is known for the wealth of premium features it offers at reasonable prices and an unmatchable comfort, which replicates the luxury offered in true-blue luxury cars. Since the Hector is focused more towards the passengers’ comfort, its suspension is rather soft. Therefore, the SUV delivers great ride comfort, but is not engineered for an entertaining driving performance.

For now, the Hector is available with only a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic. Its popular 2-litre turbo diesel engine, which was available with the pre-facelift model, will be added to the line-up later in 2026.

The Hector is available in Style, Select Pro, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro variants. Among these, Style, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro, and Savvy Pro are also available as 7-seater models, and the Select Pro variant is also available as a 7-seater model.

As far as features are concerned, the Hector offers a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 6-way powered driver seat, 4-way powered co-driver seat, auto dimming IRVM, wireless charger, powered tailgate, cruise control, push button start/stop, ambient lighting, keyless entry, and more. For the safety equipment, the Hector offers up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), traction control system, all-wheel disc brakes, hill hold control, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor, Level 2 ADAS safety suite, and more.

Key Updates of the New MG Hector

The latest facelift of the MG Hector was launched on 15 December 2025. In this facelift, MG has made some design changes, mainly on the exterior, and updates the touchscreen infotainment on the software level, adding iSwipe touch gesture control technology that allows the front passengers to adjust climate using two fingers and audio with three. Moreover, the carmaker has discontinued Shine Pro 5-seater MT, Shine Pro 5-seater CVT, and Select Pro 5-seater CVT variants, and added a Smart Pro 5-seater CVT variant.

In November 2024, MG launched two new variants of the Hector:  Select Pro 7-seater petrol-CVT variant and the Smart Pro diesel-MT. In terms of the powertrains and features, both these variants are the same as the variants they are based on.

In January 2023, MG launched its facelifted MG Hector. Mechanically, the Hector remained the same as before; however, there were many updates to the interior and exterior. Among the exterior design updates, the most prominent one is a larger grille with a new diamond-like pattern, which makes the new Hector look more imposing. With a major exterior overhaul, the MG added a few more premium features to Hector’s already impressively loaded package. A key addition is a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen integrated into the dashboard – the largest ever fitted to any mass-market car in India. The other prominent addition is the Level-2 ADAS safety suite, which works wonders in preventing accidents.

Used MG Hector: Quick Overview

For the first time, the MG Hector 5-seater SUV was launched in India in June 2019. It was powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a 2-litre turbo diesel engine. While both engines were offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine was also available with a 6-speed DCT automatic. In terms of features, this Hector offered a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, heated wing mirrors, automatic LED headlamps, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, powered driver and co-driver seats, powered tailgate, electronic parking brake, and more. For safety equipment, it offered two airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, rear parking sensors, and disc brakes on all four wheels as standard. Meanwhile, the Smart variant offered four airbags, and the Sharp variant offered six airbags.

In July 2020, MG launched the MG Hector Plus. First, the 6-seater models were introduced, while the 7-seater models were introduced later.

In February 2021, MG added a CVT automatic to Hector’s powertrain options. The CVT automatic began being offered with the petrol engine, which was also offered with a 6-speed DCT automatic.

In January 2022, MG discontinued the 6-speed DCT automatic transmission on the MG Hector.
