The older Mahindra Scorpio Classic is the more fuel-efficient of the two. In a road test, its 2.2-litre diesel manual returned 14.6 kmpl on a 50:50 city-highway mix. The best tested figure for the Scorpio N diesel is 13.3 kmpl, from the automatic. Mahindra does not publish an official mileage figure for the Scorpio N, so real-world numbers matter more than usual here.
The Scorpio Classic is a simple, diesel-manual-only, rear-wheel-drive SUV. The Scorpio N is the bigger, more powerful and more modern model, offering a turbo-petrol, an automatic and 4WD. It was refreshed in 2026 with a bigger touchscreen, a digital cluster, a panoramic sunroof and Level-2 ADAS, but its engines are unchanged. Below, we compare claimed and real-world mileage, work out monthly fuel costs, and flag where the data is thin.

Mahindra Scorpio Classic vs Mahindra Scorpio N Specs
The Scorpio Classic uses the older 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, making about 132 PS and 300 Nm. It comes only with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. It also gets a micro-hybrid auto start-stop system, which saves a little fuel when idling in traffic.
The Scorpio N is built on a newer, larger platform. Its 2.2-litre mHawk diesel comes in two tunes: 132 hp and 300 Nm, or 175 hp and up to 400 Nm. It also offers a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol with 203 hp and up to 380 Nm. Both engines come with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic, and selected diesels get 4XPLOR 4WD with terrain modes.
The 2026 Scorpio N facelift brought a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a 540-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS on the top Z8L. Mahindra made no mechanical changes, so the mileage of earlier Scorpio N models still applies.

The Classic’s milder engine tune and manual-only gearbox work in its favour on mileage. The Scorpio N’s extra power and weight cost it fuel, especially in town.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic vs Mahindra Scorpio N ARAI Mileage Figures

The Scorpio Classic diesel manual is rated at 14.44 kmpl. Mahindra’s brochure does not quote an official figure for the Scorpio N, so the numbers below are the commonly listed claimed figures. They put the Scorpio N diesel manual at 15.94 kmpl, slightly ahead of the Classic on paper.
The turbo-petrol Scorpio N is listed at just over 12 kmpl, with almost no difference between manual and automatic. The diesel automatic gives up about half a kmpl to the diesel manual.

Mahindra Scorpio Classic vs Mahindra Scorpio N Real-World Fuel Efficiency
In road tests, the Scorpio Classic diesel manual returned 14.59 kmpl on a 50:50 city-highway mix, against 13.29 kmpl for the Scorpio N diesel automatic. That makes the Classic about 10% more efficient, despite its lower claimed figure.
Both SUVs were tested on fixed city and highway routes. To compare them fairly, we blended each car’s city and highway results over equal distances (a 50:50 split). This is a little lower than a simple average, because more fuel is burned in the city.
| Diesel | Scorpio Classic diesel MT | Scorpio N diesel AT |
| City | 13.06 kmpl | 12.16 kmpl |
| Highway | 16.53 kmpl | 14.64 kmpl |
| Average (50:50) | 14.59 kmpl | 13.29 kmpl |
| Tank range | about 875 km (60 L) | about 760 km (57 L) |
A separate, more demanding test of the Scorpio N diesel automatic returned much less: 8.6 kmpl in the city and 11.7 kmpl on the highway, even in its economy (Zip) mode. Real-world results for this heavy SUV clearly swing a lot with traffic and driving style.
| Other Scorpio N options | Diesel MT | Turbo-petrol AT |
| City | Not road-tested | 7.9 kmpl |
| Highway | Not road-tested | 9.4 kmpl |
| Average | 11–14 kmpl (owner-reported) | 8.58 kmpl (50:50) |
| Tank range (57 L) | about 630–800 km | about 490 km |
There is no independent road test of the Scorpio N diesel manual, so we used the typical owner-reported range, taking its midpoint of 12.5 kmpl for fuel costs. The turbo-petrol is by far the thirstiest choice, at under 9 kmpl in mixed driving. We found no reliable real-world data yet for 4WD versions, which usually return slightly less than 2WD.

| Five-year cost | ₹6,07,916 | ₹7,09,560 | ₹6,67,381 | ₹11,73,776 |
Over five years, the Classic saves about ₹60,000 over the Scorpio N diesel automatic, and about ₹1 lakh over the diesel manual (based on owner figures). Those savings are modest next to the Scorpio N’s extra features, power and safety kit.
The Scorpio N turbo-petrol is a different story. It costs about ₹8,400 a month more to fuel than the diesel automatic, or over ₹5 lakh across five years. For high-mileage buyers, the diesel is the clear pick.
The figures exclude servicing, insurance, tyres and future fuel price changes. 4WD versions are left out because there is no reliable real-world data for them.

The Scorpio N asks more but adds an automatic, 4WD and a far more modern cabin. If you’d rather skip the new-car premium, you can also browse quality-checked pre-owned Scorpios on Spinny.
Summary
The Scorpio Classic is the more fuel-efficient choice in real-world driving. It returned 14.59 kmpl on a 50:50 city-highway mix, against 13.29 kmpl for the Scorpio N diesel automatic, and costs about ₹1,000 a month less to fuel at 1,500 km.
The Scorpio N diesel is still a reasonable buy if you want an automatic, 4WD or the facelift’s new features. Its higher fuel bill is small compared with what those extras add. Avoid the turbo-petrol if you drive a lot, since it returned under 9 kmpl in testing. Real-world data for the Scorpio N diesel manual and the 4WD versions is still limited, so treat those numbers as estimates.

FAQs about Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N Mileage Comparison
Which gives better mileage, the Scorpio Classic or the Scorpio N?
The Scorpio Classic. In road tests, its diesel manual returned 14.59 kmpl on a 50:50 city-highway mix, against 13.29 kmpl for the Scorpio N diesel automatic. That works out to about ₹1,000 a month less in fuel at 1,500 km.
Did the 2026 Scorpio N facelift improve mileage?
No. The facelift added a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a digital cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a 540-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS on the top Z8L. Mahindra made no changes to the engines or gearboxes, so mileage stays the same as before.
Why does the Scorpio N claim more mileage than the Classic but deliver less?
The Scorpio N diesel manual is listed at 15.94 kmpl, against 14.44 kmpl for the Classic. In real-world driving, though, the Scorpio N’s extra weight and power cost it fuel, especially in stop-go traffic. Lab figures also use light loads and no traffic.
Is the Scorpio N petrol a good choice for daily driving?
Only if you drive short distances. The turbo-petrol automatic returned 7.9 kmpl in the city and 9.4 kmpl on the highway in testing. At 1,500 km a month, that is about ₹8,400 more in fuel than the diesel automatic.
Does the Scorpio Classic come with an automatic or 4×4?
No. The Scorpio Classic is sold only with a 2.2-litre diesel, a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. For an automatic or 4WD, you need the Scorpio N.
Does 4WD reduce the Scorpio N’s mileage?
Slightly. The 4WD system adds weight and driveline losses, so expect a little less than the 2WD figures. There is no reliable real-world test of the 4WD versions yet.
How far can each SUV go on a full tank?
The Scorpio Classic has a 60-litre tank, giving about 875 km at its tested 14.59 kmpl. The Scorpio N has a 57-litre tank, good for about 760 km with the diesel automatic and about 490 km with the turbo-petrol automatic.
