When it comes to the Indian automobile industry, the key to success is not always the best car. For example, a car like the Tata Curvv EV, which is stylish, feature-laden, and offers the segment-best ride quality and impressive driving range for its price, has not earned the success it was aimed at. But that does not make it a poor electric car; it’s just that the electric car space is already small, and it has a lot of capable options that the Curvv EV must compete against. Recently, the competition for the Tata Curvv EV has further increased with the launch of the VinFast VF – the flagship model of the Vietnamese carmaker that has entered India with an intent to capitalise on the growing popularity of electric cars. So, how well does the Tata Curvv EV fare against the VinFast VF7? To answer this question, in the comparison of VinFast VF7 vs Tata Curvv EV, we compare the two and learn what advantages they offer over each other.

In terms of overall space, the VF7 is much larger and can comfortably accommodate three adults in its rear seat. The inadequate space for three adults in the rear seat is one of the drawbacks of the Tata Curvv EV.

As far as designs are concerned, both VinFast VF7 and Tata Curvv EV are attractive electric SUVs, but in different ways. The VF7 bears a crossover design with a slightly sloping roofline that ends at a prominent spoiler. At the front, the VF7 features striking eyebrow-shaped DRLs that dip at the nose with a ‘V’ logo between them. Like the Curvv EV, the VF7 has its headlamps placed lower down on the bumper, but its headlamps are broader and have another pair of eyebrow-shaped DRLs right above them. On the sides, the VF7 rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, features flush door handles, and has some cuts and creases that give it some muscle. At the rear, the VF7 has a unique set of vertically placed LED tail lamps and illuminated horizontally-integrated light bars like the front end.

On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV is one of the few coupe SUVs in India, which makes it rare and more eye-catching than most other cars. At the front end, the Curvv EV shares many elements with the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Punch EV, for example, an LED light bar running the width of the bonnet and vertically placed headlamps that are tucked in towards the sides of the bumper. Like most EVs, the Curvv EV features a concealed grille area. On the side, thanks to the coupe SUV design, the Indian coupe SUV gets a sloping roofline that merges with the boot lid and rising shoulder line. Like the front end, the Curvv EV features a full-width LED light bar at the rear too; however, like all coupe SUVs, the Curvv EV lacks a rear wiper, and the raked rear end also means that rear visibility is not great from the inside.

However, while the claimed range of the VF7 is slightly longer than that of the Curvv EV, in real-world driving conditions, both electric cars should deliver almost the same range. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that the VF7 top variant is vastly more powerful than the Curvv EV top variant, and therefore, it delivers a far more electrifying performance in comparison. Another key point to note is that the VF7 top variants come with a dual-motor setup that enables an all-wheel-drive, while the Curvv EV offers a front-wheel-drive.
The VinFast VF7 offers larger battery packs, more power, and slightly longer driving range as compared to the Tata Curvv EV.

The absence of the instrument clusters not only makes it the first car in India to have such a design, but also lends an uncluttered dashboard and better visibility of the road ahead. Instead of an instrument cluster, the VF7 sports a true-blue head-up display that projects the instrumentation data on the windshield, and the same data can be accessed on the right corner of the large touchscreen that is angled to face the driver. Most of the VF7 controls are integrated into the touchscreen, while there are some toggle switches below.

On the other hand, the Tata Curvv EV simulate the atmosphere of most other premium Tata cars like the Tata Nexon EV. It features a clean dashboard with a carbon fibre element that underlines the free-standing touchscreen and houses trapezoidal AC vents. The Indian electric SUV sports the same steering as the larger Tata cars like the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier, and like most modern Tata cars, it features a gloss-black HVAC panel. While the Curvv EV is smaller and significantly less spacious than the VF7, its panoramic sunroof magnifies the sense of spaciousness, and since it is a sunroof, it can be completely slid open, while the VF7 has a fixed glass roof.
As far as features are concerned, both electric cars are impressively laden; however, the Curvv EV has a couple of advantages due to the powered front passenger seat and the panoramic sunroof that can be completely slid open, unlike the fixed glass roof of the VF7.
On the inside, the VinFast VF7 looks and feels richer than the Tata Curvv EV. However, feature-wise, both VF7 and Curvv EV are nearly on the same level.

VinFast VF7 vs Tata Curvv EV: Which one should you buy
The Tata Curvv EV is a beautiful coupe SUV and offers an attractive deal with a host of features, strong passenger safety, and great ride comfort. However, because of the inadequate space for three adults in the rear seat, the Curvv EV has been turning away buyers looking for a mid-size electric SUV for a family. If you are comparing it with the VF7 and looking to save a few lakhs, you can consider it as your next family car. But that should be the only reason you pick it over the VF7. It is because a few more lakhs over the Curvv EV price, the VF7 offers a better deal than the Curvv EV.
