Toyota’s premium MUV, Toyota Innova Hycross, has scored a full 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP safety test for both adult and child occupants. This makes the Innova Hycross the first Toyota car, the first MUV, and the first hybrid car to be tested by the Bharat NCAP. Here is a closer look at how well the Toyota Innova Hycross performed in the test.

Toyota Innova Hycross: Adult Occupant Protection

30.47 out of 32 in AOP

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the MUV provided good protection to most of the body for both driver and passenger, but chest protection and driver’s tibia protection were found to be adequate, as the MUV scored 14.47 out of 16 points. In the side movable deformable barrier test, it scored full marks (16/16) and offered good protection to the driver’s head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. In the side pole impact test, the protection offered to the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis was reported as good.

Toyota Innova Hycross: Child Occupant Protection

45 out of 49 in COP

In the child occupant protection (COP) test, the Innova Hycross secured 45 out of 49 points, earning the highest COP score to date among any car. The MUV earned a full 24 out of 24 points in the dynamic test, 12 out of 12 points in CRS (child restraint system), and 9 out of 13 in the vehicle assessment test. The dummies of 18-month-old and 3-year-old babies were tested in rearward-facing child seats, protected by ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. The Innova Hycross packs ISOFIX anchorages on the rear seats but does not feature an integrated child restraint system.

Toyota Innova Hycross: Platform and Safety Features

The Toyota Innova Hycross is based on Toyota’s modular TNGA-C platform and comes standard with six airbags. Other features that the Innova Hycross offers as standard include 3-point seat belts with reminders for all passengers, ESC, ISOFIX anchors for rear outboard seats and a passenger-side airbag cut-off switch. The popular Japanese MUV is compliant with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms, and its Top variant ZX (O) trim also comes with a Level-2 ADAS safety suite.
