Kia has released a teaser of the Kia Carens Clavis EV ahead of its launch on July 15. Expectedly, the Carens Clavis EV looks quite similar to the ICE-powered Clavis, and there are some EV-specific updates. The biggest highlight is that the Kia Carens Clavis EV claims a driving range of 490 km on a single charge. Here is a closer look at the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Design
As mentioned, the Kia Carens Clavis EV looks pretty much the same as the Kia Carens Clavis. While the Carens Clavis also features a closed-off grille area, the closed-off grille on the Carens Clavis EV gets a charging socket placed on the nose. The bumper has been slightly redesigned, and there are new dual-tone aero-efficient alloy wheels to maintain EV aesthetics and new ice-cubed LED fog lamps.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Interior and Features
On the inside, there is no gear lever, which has allowed Kia to form a floating centre console that has a lot of storage space. While the dashboard design with dual-screen setup is the same as the standard Carens Clavis, there is a new wireless charging pad on the console and a new colour scheme for the interior. The teaser shows a 7-seater layout of the Carens Clavis EV, and it remains to be seen if Kia offers a 6-seater model as it does with the standard Kia Carens Clavis.
In terms of features, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will offer everything that the standard Carens Clavis does. For example, front ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, cooled glove box and can storage area for the rear occupants, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 8-speaker BOSE sound system, 4-way powered front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, and more.
On the safety front, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to offer 6 airbags, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist control (HAC), and vehicle stability management (VSC) as standard. And the higher variants are expected to offer Level-2 ADAS features.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Battery and Range
The teaser shows that the Kia Carens Clavis EV will offer a driving range of 490 km. While Kia has not revealed the battery details of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, it is expected to share its battery with the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Hyundai Creta Electric comes with two battery options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, which offer a claimed driving range of 390 km and 473 km, respectively.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Price and Rivals
The Kia Carens Clavis EV will launch on 15 July and is expected to be priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 24.38 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the Kia Carens Clavis EV will rival the BYD eMAX 7, which is priced at Rs 26.90 – 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
