The Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a new FASTag pass system, which will come into effect from 15 August onwards. He stated, “In a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel, we are introducing a FASTag-based Annual Pass priced at Rs. 3,000, effective from 15th August 2025. Valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips—whichever comes first—this pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.”

Essentially, in this new FASTag pass scheme, private vehicle users can buy an annual FASTag pass for Rs 3,000 that will cover their toll payments for one year from the date of activation or 200 trips, whichever is earlier. Here, 200 trips mean crossing 200 National Highway toll plazas.

Substantial Reduction in Highway Travelling Cost

There has long been the provision to buy a monthly pass based on your FASTag on select highway corridors, but only for a single toll plaza. This annual FASTag pass system will be a great relief to frequent highway users as the facility to pay the payment of Rs 3,000 at once for up to 200 trips or one year, will significantly reduce the highway travelling expenditure. If we calculate, 200 trips for Rs 3,000 means Rs. 15 per toll crossing, which is an appealing deal, as currently, toll payments can range from Rs 70-80 to over Rs 200 for crossing a toll.

Close to the rollout date for this system, a dedicated link for activation or renewal of annual passes will be made available on the NHAI and MoRTH websites and the Rajmarg Yatra app. By using the said platforms, users will be able to activate and renew the annual FASTag passes. Annual FASTag passes will be available for all existing FASTag accounts and can be availed on all national highways with FASTag-enabled toll plazas.
