In the past few years, no carmaker has risen as much as Tata has and today it is among the front runners of the Indian automobile industry. With a couple of blockbusters, some substantially successful, and some underrated cars, Tata consistently keeps a stronghold on the third largest share of the overall sales and the same was the case last month. Selling 50,105 units in March 2024, Tata grew its year-on-year sales by 13.8 percent and as always placed two of its cars among the top ten selling cars. Here are the top selling Tata cars of March 2024.

Tata Punch

Spinny Assured Tata Punch Kaziranga

While Tata Punch has been a massive hit since its launch, its popularity has surged dramatically in recent times. Last month, selling 17,547 units, the Punch went on to become the best-selling car in India and being a non-Maruti car this is a truly commendable feat by the Punch. With this, Punch grew its sales by 61 percent over its sales of the same month in 2023 and did a hefty 35 percent of Tata’s gross sales. As the toughest car in its segment and one of the safest cars in India, Punch puts forth an unmatchable value, especially in the price bracket it is sold in. Combined with this, the macho looks and premium ride comfort makes for a deal which is proving to be the favourite of most Indians.

Like the Tiago and Tigor, Punch is available in petrol-powered, CNG-powered, and electric-powered avatars. The ICE variants come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The Tata Punch EV is available with a 25 kWh battery and a 35 kWh battery that offer the ranges of 315 km and 421 km respectively.

Tata Nexon

In March 2024, Nexon collected sales of 14,058 units, seeing a minute 5 percent decline in its year-on-year performance. While Nexon’s sales figures are not as impressive as they were a while ago, the Indian compact SUV is still one of the best-selling cars let alone Tata cars. As a matter of fact, this is the car that turned fortunes for the Indian carmaker and will go down as one of the most successful cars in Indian history. Like Tata Punch, Nexon is the safest car in its category and one of the safest cars in India. In addition to formidable safety, Nexon offers a stylish look and segment-best ride comfort, presenting itself as a great value-for-money family car.

In terms of mechanicals, Nexon is available with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AMT. Moreover, there is an optional 6-speed DCT automatic mated to the turbo petrol engine. The Tata Nexon EV comes with two battery packs. The 30 kWh battery pack offers a range of 325 km while the 40.5 kWh battery pack offers a range of 465 km.

Tata Tiago

Best CNG Cars in India

As expected of Tata cars, Tata Tiago offers unparalleled safety in its segment. Moreover, the Indian hatchback is stylish and meets all the needs of a comfortable  day-to-day commute. Over the years, the Tiago has garnered enough popularity that it is one of the best-selling hatchbacks and perpetually does decent business for the Indian carmaker. In March 2024, the Tiago raked in sales of 6,381 units, seeing a 13 percent drop from its sales in the same month last year.

The powertrain options of the Tata Tiago consist of a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG variants come with only manual transmission and can run 26.49 km/kg, while the Tiago EV comes with two battery options: a 19.2 kWh battery pack and a 24 kWh battery pack that have claimed ranges of 250 km and 315 km respectively.

Tata Altroz

Spinny Assured Tata Altroz

The Tata Altroz holds a respectable dominance, competing in a niche segment which is slightly unpopular as compared to other segments but is highly competitive. To rival the Hyundai i20 and the segment-leader Maruti Baleno, the Altroz offers an attractive appearance and a strong body which has been conferred a full 5-star rating by Global NCAP. In other respects, such as the wealth of premium features and interior quality, the Indian premium hatchback is at par with its rivals if not above. Like the Tiago, the Altroz is on a steady run and considerably contributes to the gross sales of the Indian carmaker every month. In March 2024, the Altroz grew its year-on-year sales by 55 percent and its sale is expected to grow even further after the launch of the upcoming Tata Altroz Racer.

The Altroz has three engines on offer: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. All three engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard; however, the naturally aspirated petrol engine also comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Additionally, the Altroz is also available in CNG-powered variants that deliver a mileage of 26.2 km/kg.

Tata Safari

Tata Safari. New Car Facelifts Launched in 2023

When it comes to large family cars, the flagship of the Indian carmaker, Tata Safari is one of the best in the business. In the Tata Safari, the rich volumes of space for all seven passengers combined with premium light-coloured interiors lend a great ambience to spend time in. Moreover, Tata has equipped it with a host of premium features to deliver an entertainment ride. What further uplifts the appeal of Safari as a competent family car is its sturdy structure which has scored  full 5 stars in the Global NCAP safety test. As per its segment standards, the Safari is one of the best-selling cars. Last month it saw a 9 percent uptick in its year-on-year sales by selling 2063 units.

The Tata Safari shares its 2-litre diesel engine with Jeep Compass, MG Hector, and Tata Harrier. This engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier is one of the best cars under Rs. 30 lakh. Its charm starts from its majestic looks which can turn heads of even those who have little to no interest in cars. Then, its cabin is as large as that of its seven-seater derivative, Tata Safari and this speaks volumes about the acres of space the Harrier offers for five occupants. Moreover, like the Safari, Tata Harrier is rated 5-star by the Global NCAP, features the ADAS safety suite, and is one of the safest cars in India. All of this comes to make Harrier fiercely compete with rivals like MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass. Previous month, Tata Harrier sold 2,054 units and while this is a 20 percent decline in its year-on-year performance, the Indian SUV finished well ahead of most of its rivals.

Tata Harrier is available with a 2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Tata Tigor

Spinny Assured used Tata Tigor

The term ‘underrated’ is what best suits the Tata Tigor. Despite being capable of meeting most needs of an average Indian buyer, thisIndian compact sedan did not attain the success it deserved. However, the Tigor is doing business away from the limelight and in March 2024 it collected sales of 2,017 units which is a 25 percent decline in its year-on-year performance. While being the safest car in its segment with a 4-star G-NCAP rating, Tata Tigor offers an immaculate cabin that is high on comfort. The car features everything needed to provide an entertaining ride.

In terms of powertrains, Tigor is the only car in its segment to be available in petrol-powered, CNG-powered, and electric variants. For ICE variants, Tigor comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed AMT. Its CNG variants are mated to either a manual transmission or AMT, while Tigor EV comes with a 26 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 315 km.
