2021 is shaping up to be the year of the SUV with a slew of SUV launches in a number segments. The newest addition to this growing list is the Force Gurkha. The Force Gurkha has been revealed by Force Motors and here is everything you need to know about this SUV.

What is the Force Gurkha?

Both Force Motors and Gurkha may appear to be alien names to you. Force Motors is known for building a number of commercial vehicles, most recognizable of which is the Force Traveller and Force Trax. While Force Motors is primarily a commercial vehicle brand, it has offered a few SUVs for private ownership. The most notable of these cars is the Force Gurkha.

The Force Gurkha is a 4×4 SUV that derives its design from the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Unlike the Mercedes, the Force Gurkha does not prioritize comfort or features for its owner. It’s entire purpose has been designed to be an off-roading workhorse with power to help it tackle any terrain. The Gurkha has been around since 2008 and in 2021, it has received its latest redesign.

Force Gurkha Exteriors

Like its competitor, the Mahindra Thar, Force Motors has opted to retain the recognizable exterior design of the Force Gurkha. It still continues the G-Wagon inspired aesthetic as well as the design of its predecessors. However, there are several changes to the exterior that bring the Gurkha up to par with its competitors.

Force Gurkha Side Snorkel

The Force Gurkha gets all-new body panels along with large windows on the side and LED headlights. The iconic snorkel as well as an integrated step is offered as standard while the bumpers have been revised to adhere to the safety regulations. The Gurkha retains its high 4×4 off-roader stance as well as large 17-inch off-road tyres.

Force Gurkha Interiors & Features

The Gurkha has always been known to focus entirely on the off-road capability while keeping interior comfort and features as spartan as possible. While the interior is still spartan in comparison to its competitors, it has seen a major improvement over its predecessors.

Force Gurkha dashboard

The dashboard has been completely redesigned with a driver-positioned instrument cluster and 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display in the centre console. In terms of controls, the Gurkha’s front and rear mechanical differential locks are present along side the gearbox and the 4×4 transfer box. Seating comfort has also been improved, with the second row getting captain seats.

Force Gurkha Performance

Off-road performance has always been the Gurkha’s calling card and that holds true for the new Gurkha as well. Powering this 4×4 SUV is a 2.6-litre diesel engine with 90 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine has been tuned to deliver it’s torque in the low range to make off-roading as effortless as possible.

Force Gurkha 4x4 Transfer Box

The Gurkha also features a capable 4×4 transfer with High and Low range modes as well as the option to switch between 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive. There are also mechanical locking differentials for the front and rear wheels to aid navigating tougher terrain. The snorkel allows the Gurkha to wade water up to a depth of 700mm, which should come handy when crossing rivers or the now common flooded roads.

Force Gurkha Price and Competition

The price for the Force Gurkha will be revealed on September 27. This 4×4 SUV is expected to compete against the Mahindra Thar in terms of price and target market. Like the Thar, the Force Gurkha is squarely aimed at the off-road enthusiast as well as those living in areas with challenging terrains.
