India is home to one of the largest car markets, where several car brands remain in fierce competition. In May 2025, with nearly 3.5 lakh cars sold, sales increased by 0.2 percent over May 2024 and dropped by 1.1 percent compared to April 2025. As always, Maruti Suzuki became the best-selling car brand in India. Read on to find out the top-selling car brands in India in May 2025, and what makes Maruti Suzuki reign supreme.

Why is Maruti Suzuki the Best-Selling Car Brand in May 2025?

New Maruti Dzire

Since the dawn of the Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki has been the best-selling car brand. Quite early in its run, the Indo-Japanese carmaker acquired a firm grasp on what the masses need and want, and the same is the level of dominance it still maintains. When we say ‘masses’, we mean masses across the nation and not just Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. While the economical character, low maintenance cost, and reliability have always been the strongest attractions for Maruti Suzuki cars, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has recently turned its focus towards enhancing the safety standards of its cars

A few months ago, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire became the first Maruti car to score a full 5-star rating, establishing it as one of the safest cars in India. Recently, Maruti Suzuki also began offering six airbags as standard in many of its cars, such as the Alto K10, Wagon R, Brezza, and more. Understandably, such efforts are along the lines of buyers looking for safer cars and have certainly helped Maruti Suzuki maintain its lead in May 2025. Moreover, as was the case in April 2025, the Dzire, Ertiga, and Brezza remained the top three sellers, while their ranking shuffled a bit.
