Mumbai’s next National Lok Adalat is on 12 December 2026. If your vehicle has old traffic challans that were never paid and have since moved to the virtual court, this sitting is where you can close them. You can attend in person or join online through e-Lok Adalat. The one condition is that the offence must be compoundable, which covers most everyday challans.
The sittings are run by the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA). Registration usually opens a few weeks ahead. Start by checking your challan status in Mumbai, so you know exactly which notices are pending.

What is Lok Adalat for traffic challans?
Think of it as a settlement table rather than a courtroom hearing. The bench goes through the challans pending against your vehicle and tells you how much to pay. Sometimes that figure is lower than the original fine. Often it isn’t. Either way, once you pay, the challan is closed for good and there is no appeal.

Which challans can be settled in Mumbai Lok Adalat?
Nearly all challans issued by Mumbai Traffic Police can be taken up, camera challans included. The exceptions are offences that lead to criminal cases. Those go to a magistrate.

Fines shown are the standard amounts under the Motor Vehicles Act, 2019. Maharashtra sets its own compounding amounts, and the bench has the final say on what you pay.
How to settle a challan in Mumbai Lok Adalat
Check pending challans
Enter your vehicle number on the Maharashtra traffic e-challan website. Note down every challan marked pending or sent to court. If you ride a two-wheeler, run a separate bike challan check. For notices already in the virtual court, the court challan page shows where each one stands.
Register for the sitting
Once registration opens, sign up on the Maharashtra traffic e-challan or MSLSA website and pick in-person or online. Make sure the mobile number linked to your vehicle still works. That’s where the updates and the meeting link will go.
Keep documents ready
- Challan printouts or your registration confirmation
- RC and driving licence
- Insurance and PUC certificates
- A photo ID such as Aadhaar or PAN
Attend and pay
If you’re going in person, reach the court on your notice and wait for your turn before the bench. If you registered online, join the video call from the link you received. The bench fixes the amount and you pay then and there. Online sessions accept UPI and net banking. Hold on to the receipt. The e-challan website can take a few days to show the challan as disposed.

What if you miss the Lok Adalat in Mumbai?
Nothing gets cancelled. The challan simply stays with the virtual court, and you still have three options.

A challan can be paid online at the standard fine amount for as long as it has not been sent to the virtual court. After that point, it is handled through the court or a Lok Adalat sitting.
Q. Can drunk driving challans be settled in Mumbai Lok Adalat?
Drunk driving is a non-compoundable offence, so the parties cannot settle it between themselves. These cases go before a magistrate in the regular court.
Q. Will my fine definitely be reduced?
The bench looks at each challan separately and decides the amount. Some challans are settled for less than the original fine, while others are settled at the full amount, so a reduction is never guaranteed.
