The Czech automaker, Skoda is well regarded in India for building luxurious sedans that provide much better value than the German luxury carmakers. In recent years, the shift towards SUVs had left Skoda behind, with a few attempts at breaking into the market with the Skoda Karoq and the Kamiq premium SUVs.
In 2021, Skoda looks to rejuvenate its SUV lineup with its Built-for-India products, starting with the launch of the Skoda Kushaq. With its sights set on breaking into the hotly contested mid-size SUV segment, here’s a quick look at the Skoda Kushaq.
Skoda Kushaq Exterior Design
The design of the Skoda Kushaq was teased as the Skoda Vision IN concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now in its production-spec, the exterior design carries over many of the features of the concept.
While the silhouette appears to be boxy, there are interesting elements that make the Kushaq look very attractive. The front is dominated by the large signature grille flanked by the angular split headlight design. The contrasting bumper features a skid plate, which inspires confidence in its off-roading capability.
While the Skoda Kushaq will be one of the shorter mid-size SUVs on the market, its long wheelbase will ensure interior space is competitive against rivals. The ground clearance of 188 mm is also designed for the rough Indian roads. The rear of the Kushaq incorporates Skoda’s global SUV styling, with slim tail lights and a flat tailgate.
Skoda Kushaq Interiors
Skoda’s prowess for offering luxurious interiors continues on the Skoda Kushaq. The dashboard receives the same angular aesthetic as the exterior. The large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display dominates the centre console while the chrome-lined air vents add flair to the dual tone interiors.
The two-spoke steering wheel also houses metallic scroll wheels, adding to the premium driving experience. The dual-tone perforated leatherette seats provide a comfortable passenger experience. The already spacious cabin is complemented by a sunroof that works to improve the ambience.
Skoda Kushaq Performance
Performance is where Skoda will really deliver with the Kushaq. With the pedigree of the Octavia RS245 behind it, the Kushaq can be expected to be a very spirited performer.
The lower variants will be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. With 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque, there is plenty of power to make driving the Kushaq a joy. More enthusiastic drivers should gravitate towards the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. Producing 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque, the Kushaq with this engine is sure to leave its competitors in the dust.

Skoda Kushaq Price
The Skoda Kushaq will be competing against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV500. This places the Kushaq at a price range of ₹10 lakhs to ₹18 lakhs. Entering this segment will make the Skoda Kushaq a very compelling choice for those looking for Skoda’s signature design and interior luxury. Expect the exact pricing when the car is properly launched in June 2021.
