Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun are the latest cars to score a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, making them the safest compact SUVs not only for adults, but children as well. Both compact SUVs were tested under the G-NCAP’s new testing procedure that features additional crash tests to provide a more comprehensive safety rating.

Skoda Kushaq & Volkswagen Taigun G-NCAP Test Results

Skoda and Volkswagen’s SUVs are built on the same MQB A0-IN platform that also underpins the Slavia and Virtus as well. While the Global NCAP tested the India-spec Volkswagen Taigun, they have extended the safety rating to the Skoda SUV as well.

In the adult safety test, both cars scored 29.64 points out of a maximum 34 points, while in the child safety test, the cars scored 42 points out of a maximum 49 points. According to the crash test report, the Kushaq and Taigun provides adequate to good protection of the driver’s body while the co-passenger had good protection in the event of a frontal impact. In terms of protection in a side impact, both cars provide marginal to good protection for the passengers. The bodyshell of both cars remained stable in the frontal impact test while the door structure for the side impact protection did their work.

The Kushaq and Taigun are the first cars from India to be tested under the new Global NCAP safety test procedure that was introduced in March 2022. You can read more about the tests in this explainer about the new Global NCAP tests.
