The Indian car market revolves around the value for money concept. Everyone likes to pay as little as possible and get more bang for their buck. CNG vehicles were previously avoided because of their connotations with fleet and transport operators. Now, the soaring prices of petrol and diesel have made them a desirable option for many. Also, there is a widespread belief that they are sustainable and a green eco friendly fuel for our environment.

Considering a CNG car? Let’s delve into it. Opting for a Hyundai CNG car is not just about driving; it’s about savings too. Worried about soaring fuel costs? CNG is lighter on your wallet compared to petrol or diesel. It’s like getting more for your money. While there’s a premium for CNG cars, this is more than offset if you are in the market for long term ownership and running crosses 45-50,000 km.

Importantly, choosing a Hyundai CNG car doesn’t mean sacrificing performance. They still offer the acceleration you love. Plus, maintenance is simpler, resulting in fewer trips to the garage and more carefree journeys.

The growth of CNG cars in India signifies a move towards greener mobility. Backed by Hyundai’s extensive network, these cars showcase the brand’s commitment to customer satisfaction and excellence.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a CNG car available in India, with two trim levels: Sportz, and Asta. It is priced at a premium of nearly Rs. 95000 over its petrol counterparts. It’s designed for small families, offering sporty looks, user-friendly driving, and a decent list of features. Powered by a 1197 cc engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, it produces 67.72 bhp power and 95.2 Nm torque. The car’s fuel efficiency is impressive at 27.30 km/kg. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG version boasts a total boot capacity of 260 litres. However, this space has been somewhat compromised by the incorporation of a 60-litre CNG tank. As a result, there’s only enough room for a couple of  small bags or laptop bags. Alternatively, you could always use the parcel tray. Additionally, due to the presence of the CNG tank, accessing the spare wheel has become a bit more challenging. To access the spare wheel, it’s necessary to fold the rear seats first. Despite these limitations, the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG remains a practical choice for those seeking a fuel-efficient and eco-friendly option for city driving.

This Hyundai CNG car provides ample space for individuals up to six feet tall in the back seat. The rear area remains spacious, making it comfortable for four adults. Notably, it stands out in its segment by offering rear seat AC vents. The i10 Nios maintains its unchanged dimensions, ensuring roominess for four occupants with sufficient legroom and headroom in the back, though shoulder space could be limited, especially when three people are seated side by side on the rear bench.

This Hyundai CNG car maintains a supple ride quality, effectively absorbing most road imperfections, although larger bumps might still be noticeable. Overall, the ride is gentle and comfortable, contributing to the pleasant driving experience of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

Hyundai Exter

Hyundai Exter

The Hyundai Exter CNG model exceeds expectations with its impressive features. This Hyundai CNG car combines exceptional mileage, a sunroof, and striking interior and exterior design, making it truly remarkable. The Hyundai Exter appears poised to be a bestseller due to its distinctive boxy design, competitive pricing, and impressive range of features. The CNG variant is touted to deliver an impressive 27.1 km per kg. The Bi-Fuel Kappa Engine provides 69 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque, ensuring a balance of performance and efficiency. The CNG option is a segment first, utilising a single 65-litre tank for extended range. However, the boot space of 391 litres becomes seriously compromised when the CNG tank is installed. You might be able to fit in a couple of small duffel bags or a couple of laptop bags in a pinch. Alternatively, you could use the parcel tray.

The cabin of this Hyundai CNG car is spacious and offers impressive head, knee and foot room thanks to small thoughtful touches like scooping out the back of the front seats. The engine is peppy and responsive, delivering power in a linear manner. The high ground clearance contributes to a comfortable well planted drive, even over rough roads.

It is sold in the mid-spec S and higher spec SX variants, each of which commands a premium of nearly a lakh over its petrol counterparts. This Hyundai CNG car manages to stand out due to its long feature list, ride and engine quality, with a distinctive design element.

Hyundai Aura

Hyundai Aura

The Hyundai Aura CNG is powered by a responsive CNG engine, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable driving experience while minimising environmental impact. The refined engine operates smoothly, with ignition barely audible from the inside. While there’s a slight power reduction on CNG, the impressive mileage of 28 km/kg more than compensates for it. It’s a top choice for those seeking a blend of performance, mileage, and style. The CNG models of the Aura generate a maximum torque of 95.2 Nm and 69 PS of power, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. While compact sedans might not be as trendy as before, models like the Aura remain a smart pick for budget-friendly family transportation with a touch of elegance, minus the premium SUV price tag. Boasting a sleek and contemporary design, the Hyundai Aura effortlessly catches eyes on the road.

Inside, this Hyundai CNG car provides a comfortable and spacious cabin that accommodates both passengers and cargo with ease. The inclusion of a CNG kit doesn’t compromise the car’s practicality, making it a versatile choice for urban commuting and longer journeys alike. The size of the tank is only 65 litres which means that you will have to make frequent visits to the fuel pump to top up if you use CNG more. However, this is larger than what its rivals offer. The Tata Tiago gives you a 60 litre tank which basically leaves you only the parcel tray for storage while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire gives you a 55 litre tank which offers around 170 litres of boot space. The efficient and innovative design of the Aura CNG with the clever use of space allows you the option of around 200 litres storage but you are denied hydraulic jacks and boot lamps.

This Hyundai CNG car is sold in the mid-spec S and higher spec SX variants, each of which commands a premium of Rs 95000 over its petrol counterparts. Though not available in the top trim, the Aura remains an attractive option for those who value performance, mileage, and style in a compact package.

Hyundai Aura Specifications

  • Engine: 1.2 L 4-cylinder
  • Transmission: 5 speed manual
  • Mileage: 28.0 km/kg
  • Airbags: 6

  • Body Type: Sedan
