Maruti Suzuki has ended the anticipative buzz, launching the new generation of the iconic Maruti Swift at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This benchmark Indo-Japanese hatchback has sold nearly 3 million units and inherits a legacy of over 19 years. As one of the all-time best-selling cars in India, Maruti Swift has had buyers waiting for its latest generation for a long time. Now that it is finally here, let’s take a closer look at what the new Maruti Swift is all about.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Design

As compared to the outgoing model, the new Maruti Swift is 15 mm longer, 40 mm narrower and 30 mm taller, however, has the same wheelbase of 2,450mm. While this is the fourth generation of the Indo-Japanese hatchback, the design updates are limited. That said, the new Swift looks sharper than the earlier model. Along with new sharper headlamps and boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, the front gets an all-new bumper with the Suzuki logo sitting atop a new radiator grille. On the side, the new Swift gets a more pronounced shoulder line, and new 16-inch alloy wheels, and the rear door handles are now placed traditionally (on rear doors only) in contrast to the out-going model which had them on C-pillars. At the rear, there are new parallelogram-shaped tail lamps, housing angular illuminated C-shape patterns and some dark elements, adding to the sporty appeal. With this, there is a new bumper and a rear camera on the tailgate.

Maruti is offering Swift in nine colour options. The three dual-tone options include Sizzling Red, Luster Blue, and Pearl Arctic White with Pearl Midnight Black Roof, while the single-tone options are Metallic Sizzling Red, Prime Luster Blue, Prime Novel Orange, Metallic Magma Grey, Prime Splendid Silver, Pearl Arctic White. Maruti is also offering two accessory packages. The first one, Racing Roadster brings sporty cosmetic changes inside out, while the second one, Thrill Chaser brings what Maruti calls ‘energetic exterior and glamorous interior’ styling changes.

New Maruti Suzuki Swift: Interiors & Features

Changes to the interiors are more prominent than the ones to the exterior. On the inside, the new Maruti Swift is in line with Maruti’s current design language and looks quite like the Maruti Fronx and the Maruti Brezza. It gets a new 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit and revised trapezoidal AC vents placed below it. There are new HVAC switchgear like those of the Maruti Baleno, replacing the circular knobs. Moreover, the restyled dashboard gets a slightly revised instrument cluster which still has a dual-pod analogue setup with a TFT multi-information display. Meanwhile, the seats get new fabric upholstery.

In the feature department, the new Swift continues to offer cruise control, automatic climate control, push-button start/stop, steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, and others. Meanwhile, the features Maruti has added to the new Swift include a wireless phone charger, rear AC vents, 40+ connected car tech features, rear camera, LED fog lamps, power-adjustable and folding ORVMs, and a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

In safety features, the new Maruti Swift is equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, ABS with EBD, and ESC standard across the variants, while Hill Start Assist is being offered only in automatic variants.

The biggest update to the Swift is an all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E petrol engine replacing the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder K-series petrol engine. For transmission options, the new Maruti Swift comes with the same 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT as before. The new engine generates 82 PS power and 112 Nm peak torque. While these figures are 8 PS and 1 Nm lesser than those of the outgoing model, it gives a great boost to the mileage. The new Maruti Swift delivers 24.8 km/l with MT and 25.75 km/l with AMT.
