Suzuki has launched the new Swift in Japan. This is the latest generation of Swift and will be launched in India in 2024. Since the India-bound Swift will be similar to the Japanese model, here is what you can expect from the next-generation Maruti Swift.
New Maruti Swift 2024: Exterior
The new Swift features a clamshell-like bonnet, a new blacked-out grille featuring a hexagonal pattern, a revised bumper, and pentagonal housing for the fog lamps. Despite these updates, the front profile looks almost the same as the current model, given the similar narrow upper half and wide lower half. Much like the front profile, the side profile is almost the same in appearance, while there were a few updates like the new diamond-cut alloy wheels, the conventional antenna on the roof, and rear door handles that have been moved to the rear doors, unlike the current model, where they are placed on the C-pillars. The rear profile highlighted refreshed tail lamps with C-shaped brake lights, a revised bumper with a black insert, horizontally positioned reflectors, and the classic Swift design with the tailgate dipping between the tail lamps.
New Maruti Swift 2024: Interior
On the inside, the space looks the same as that of the current-gen Swift, indicating there will not be much difference in terms of the dimensions. The dashboard follows the same design as the current Baleno, featuring a dual-tone layered design of the dashboard, 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, and the semi-digital instrument cluster. Moreover, there are toggle switches for the HVAC controls, electronic hand brake, and the familiar three-spoke steering design but with a paddle shifter behind it. Suzuki has not given any information about the feature list of the India-bound Swift, however, expect it to carry forward all the currently available features, as well as some new features seen on the Baleno.
On the safety front, the Japanese model comes with six airbags and ADAS features like dual sensor brake support, collision-mitigation braking, an adaptive high beam System, and a driver monitoring system. However, these ADAS features are unlikely to come to India will feature only in the Europeans-spec Swift, to abide by the mandatory guidelines for the European market.
New Maruti Swift 2024: Engine
The Swift launched in Japan is equipped with a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol engine which generates 82 PS of power and 108 Nm torque. The same engine is also available with a 12V mild-hybrid system and the claimed mileages of the standard Swift and the mild-hybrid Swift are 23.4 km/l and 24.5 km/l respectively. The transmission options available are a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic along with a choice of Front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).
While the Swift that will launch in India will have the same Z12E engine, the power and mileage figures can differ from those of the Japanese model. Moreover, the CVT automatic and all-wheel-drive are unlikely to be made available in the India-bound model, and Maruti will continue to offer the AMT option for the automatic models.
New Maruti Swift 2024: Launch & Rivals
The new Maruti Swift is expected to be launched in India in the second half of the next year and the same as now its direct rivals will be the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago.
