Hyundai is ready to unveil a new midsize SUV in India, and the company has chosen the name Bayon for the car. The new vehicle will fit between the Venue and Creta in the company’s range and should arrive in the country during the festive season.
The Bayon name is inspired by a city in the French Basque Country, while Hyundai also has a Bayon i20-based crossover in some international markets. However, the India-spec model will be different from the one available overseas.
Hyundai Bayon Exterior Design
The upcoming Hyundai Bayon has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, giving an idea of its overall design. Unlike a traditional boxy SUV, the Bayon appears to have a more crossover-like stance.
The front features a split-headlamp setup, with a full-width LED light bar positioned at the top. The main headlamp unit appears to be placed on the bumper and has similarities to the design seen on the Verna. The front also gets a two-part air intake, with the registration plate holder positioned in the centre.
From the side, the Bayon gets a rising window line with a noticeable kink around the C-pillar. The SUV also features regular pull-type door handles, functional roof rails and flared wheel arches. However, it does not appear to have heavy body cladding.
At the rear, the Bayon gets a slim LED light band that follows a design similar to the front lighting signature. A prominent roof spoiler is also visible.
The upcoming SUV could be just over four metres long, helping it occupy the space below the Creta in Hyundai’s lineup.
Hyundai Bayon Interior and Features
The interior of the India-spec Hyundai Bayon has also been spotted. The dashboard appears to feature a twin-screen setup, similar to the layout used in Hyundai’s newer models.
The screens could be the latest 12.3-inch units seen on the top-spec variants of the Venue. The interior also features a dual-tone steering wheel with Hyundai’s four-dot motif, which represents the letter ‘H’ in Morse code.
The cabin is expected to use a dual-tone black-and-white colour theme. Hyundai is also expected to equip the Bayon with a long list of features.
Hyundai Bayon Engine and Transmission
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to get a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is expected to produce 115hp and could be offered with both a 6-speed manual and CVT.
The SUV is also expected to get a CNG powertrain option. The CNG tank could be positioned underneath the body.
If introduced as expected, the Bayon would become Hyundai’s first model over four metres long to be offered with CNG.

Hyundai Bayon Expected Price and Launch
The Hyundai Bayon is expected to be positioned below the Creta in terms of pricing. Its expected ex-showroom price could range from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh.
The SUV is expected to launch during the 2026 festive season.
Hyundai Bayon: What to Expect
The upcoming Hyundai Bayon will give the brand another option in the midsize SUV space, sitting between the Venue and Creta. Its crossover-inspired design, 1.5-litre petrol engine, CVT and CNG options are expected to make it different from the Creta.
With the Bayon expected to be priced below the Creta, Hyundai will have another SUV positioned in the lower part of the midsize SUV market.
