Tata has been busy throughout 2022, expanding their EV lineup with the Tiago EV and the long range Nexon EV Max. On the conventional fuel side, Tata introduced several special editions for their existing lineup. While these brought some attention to the Indian car maker, buyers will be looking to the upcoming Tata cars in 2023 while they consider their next car purchase. We’ve sorted through the rumours and the spy images to curate a list of upcoming Tata cars that also features upcoming Tata EV cars as well.

Upcoming Tata Cars in India

Tata Nexon CNG

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon is a compact SUV that is available in 3 fuel options – diesel and petrol, and in an EV form too. The Nexon CNG is suitable for consumers looking for a mileage-seeking SUV, and for those who don’t need instant power. The car is also suitable for someone looking for a compact SUV for city runs and occasional highway runs and for some soft off-roading too.

It is expected that the car will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and will be launched in mid-2023. Talking about the features, the car will be offered with the same list of features as well as some additional features like a Height-Adjustable Driver seat, Automatic Climate Control, Sunroof, etc. It is expected that the company-fitted CNG will be equipped with the same petrol engine offered in the current model and will likely be mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. The mileage expected with CNG is 20.00km/kg.

The Tata Nexon CNG will compete against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG which again is an upcoming car to be launched soon in 2023. The expected price bracket of the CNG variant of this upcoming tata car will be around 12-15L.

Tata Harrier Facelift

Tata Harrier

The Tata Harrier is a mid-size SUV in India that’s popular due to its girthy and bold looks. The Harrier right now is only available in 1 fuel option diesel, and that’s expected to change with the launch of the facelift. The facelifted Harrier is expected to feature a petrol engine option, bringing down its price. The Harrier is an apt choice for families looking for an SUV that fulfils the need for a family car as it offers great practicality, ride quality, and driveability that suits a family car. Tata Harrier is suitable for some soft off-roading.

The Tata Harrier Facelift has been spotted testing many times and it is expected that the car will be shown off at the Auto Expo 2023 and will be launched in the first quarter of the year 2023. Tata Harrier facelift is expected to come with a certain list of features such as a 360-degree parking camera and more. The Tata Harrier will follow the same powertrain as the recent model i.e. a 2-litre diesel engine that produces 170PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of maximum torque. The engine will be mated with both manual and automatic transmissions. Specs for the petrol engine, as of now, are unknown.

The Tata Harrier directly locks horns with the MG Hector, whose facelift is also about to launch. The expected price for this upcoming tata car is expected to be around 13-14 lakhs starting with the petrol version.

Tata Punch CNG

Tata Punch

Tata Punch is a compact  SUV offered by Tata. Even though the car is not as big in dimensions it has got quite an imposing road presence. The Tata Punch CNG is suitable for consumers who want a rugged and durable car that is small in size and easy to drive in the city. Moreover, even though the car is small, it offers great cabin space hence the car is used as a family car for 3-4 people. Coupled with great mileage, it would be the perfect all-round car.

Tata Punch CNG has been spotted testing and it is expected that the car will be showcased at Auto Expo 2023 while it will be launched in late 2023. It will share the same features as the recent model. Talking about the powertrain, it will be paired with the petrol engine since it’s a CNG engine. Without CNG the 1.2l petrol engine produces about 85 PS of maximum power and 113 nm of maximum torque.  The engine is mated with a 5-speed manual and an AT gearbox.

It competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, which is indeed a tough competitor since it offers best-in-class mileage (which may be why they are launching a CNG powertrain too). The price of the car is expected to be 80k to 1L INR over the standard Punch.

Upcoming Tata EV cars

Tata is quite ahead in the EV game, and it wants to maintain this position. Thus, it has geared up a couple of EV launches for 2023. In fact, currently, Tata is offering EVs in almost every segment –  Tiago EV (hatchback), Tigor EV (compact sedan EV), Tata Nexon EV (compact SUV). Let us have a look at the upcoming Tata EV cars that are slated to launch in 2023.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV

The first upcoming Tata EV is the Tata Altroz – a premium hatchback car available in 2 fuel options (petrol and diesel). To keep the car going, Tata has decided to give the car an EV update. This EV is totally meant for you if you do daily local commutes and want to save big money on petrol expenses! It can also cover occasional highway runs as it’s expected to give a claimed range of 300 km!

The car will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 and will be launched in the first quarter of the year 2023. The car will be offered the same list of features as the standard IC Tata Altroz. It is expected that the powertrain will be the same as the Nexon EV i.e. 30.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor that chunks out 129ps of maximum power and 245 nm of maximum torque. The motor may be tweaked according to the car’s weight and aerodynamics. The Tata Altroz EV is the first-in-segment car and there aren’t any competitors. The expected price is 10-15L depending on the variant.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata Sierra

Tata Sierra EV is a whole new concept and will sit on a dedicated EV platform. Tata Sierra was showcased at Auto Expo 2020, however, it still hasn’t launched yet. Most probably the car will be launched in late 2023.

The feature list is not known yet as it was only previewed as a concept car. However, it may be so that the car is offered with a curved glass roof at the rear. (However, it is doubtful that the concept will turn out to be the same as shown) There isn’t much information about this upcoming Tata car, so keep tuned to our blog page for more updates!

It is expected that Tata will give the Sierra EV a claimed maximum range of 400 km. The expected price of the Tata Sierra will be around 15-20L INR.

Too Long Didn’t Read? Here’s a Summary

In all, these are the top 5 upcoming Tata cars in India including a mix of a rugged SUV (Harrier), 2 new EVs (Altroz EV and Sierra EV), and the popular Nexon that is coming in a CNG version. All of these vehicles offer something unique and are good in their own respect. For people buying a second car for city commute check out the Altroz EV. For people who have their heart set on buying an SUV, but want low running costs should watch out for the Nexon CNG or the Punch CNG. If you want a full-fledged SUV that can easily tackle bad roads, the Harrier facelift is the ideal choice. There is something for everyone!
