The year 2025 closed off on a prosperous note for the Indian passenger vehicle market, with the sales of 4,04,231 units in December 2025. While December usually remains a month of moderate car sales as desirability shifts to January of the next year, December 2025 was different, as the year-end discounts and special deals drove a lot of buyers to finalise their deals before the calendar turned. With strong sales, the list of top 10 selling cars saw many interesting updates. For example, no Hyundai car was among the top 10, and Maruti Baleno took the throne of the ‘best-selling car’ from the Tata Nexon, which remained the top-selling car for the past three consecutive months. Here is a look at the top 10 selling cars in India, along with an explanation of how the Maruti Baleno outsold every other car in the country.

Why is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno the Best-Selling Car in December 2025?

Spinny Assured Maruti Suzuki Baleno

It is not new to see the Maruti Baleno emerge as the best-selling car. The Indo-Japanese premium hatchback has achieved this feat many times in the past. However, in the past few years, the Baleno’s popularity has seen a significant decline, especially after the launch of the Maruti Fronx, which is the compact SUV version of the Baleno. The Baleno was not even among the top 10 selling cars in December 2024, nor in November 2025.

All the same, in December 2025, the Baleno beat even the Fronx to take the top spot and saw a staggering 143 percent growth in its year-on-year sales. A key driving factor behind Baleno’s impressive sales numbers is the year-end discounts Maruti offered. The Baleno was up to Rs 70,000 more affordable than its original price, which is Rs 5.99 – 9.10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Baleno is already a great car with one of the best fuel-efficiency figures in India, and the discounts made it even more attractive.
