2023 has been a great year for the automotive industry as a whole, and for Spinny as well. Building on the positive momentum from 2021 and 2022, we pushed into new horizons in the spirit to Go Far. With more people looking to unlock personal mobility for themselves and their families, Spinny has been at the forefront to help our customers take their first drive with confidence. From the brands you love to drive to the colours you love to flaunt, here are the interesting insights into how you chose to Go Far in 2023.

The Cars you Loved

2023 was a great year to be an automotive enthusiast. There were a slew of car launches at every price point and from every brand. While new cars attracted customers to showrooms, the familiar brought people to Spinny. The top three brands people preferred were Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Honda. These three car brands were preferred for the value they delivered as well as the reliable resale value these brands tend to fetch in the used car market. With regard to used luxury cars, German luxury was the preferred choice with BMW cars leading the way, followed by Mercedes-Benz. Luxurious adventure was also a preference, with Jeep taking the final podium spot.

While we saw sedans make a comeback and SUVs continue to dominate sales across India, it was hatchbacks that people preferred on Spinny. The Hyundai Grand i10 was the leading car sold on Spinny, highlighting the preference for a compact city car that is spacious and is well-equipped with convenient features. The Renault Kwid followed the Grand i10 and the affordable hatchback has been the choice for many first-time buyers getting their first taste of car ownership. The final podium spot went to the Baleno, a premium hatchback that is well-regarded as a family car that offers spacious interiors, efficiency, and reliability. The top luxury car models were the BMW X1, Jeep Compass, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class were the popular choices.

How you Liked to Buy

Buying a car from Spinny is a unique experience that you love. How do we know this? Well, 70% of all purchases from Spinny were done completely online. A majority of you searched, discovered, and finally purchased your car without leaving the comfort of your home. Comfort of the home was an important factor as 31% of our buyers chose to have their cars home delivered while the remaining 69% chose to visit our Spinny Car Hubs to take delivery of their car. Another interesting statistic was that 46% of our buyers chose to finance their purchase from Spinny, taking advantage of the new Spinny Capital initiative that streamlines used car finances.

What you Preferred Buying

We’ve talked about the cars and the brands, but there’s more to buying a car than just the brand or the model. With that line of thought, the preference for manual transmission cars continued to dominate with 80% of our buyers loving the engaging driving experience. The remaining 20% chose convenience by choosing automatic cars to make their commutes in city traffic less stressful. Petrol also continued to be the popular choice, with 77% preferring to drive petrol cars while 19% chose diesel, and 4% opted for CNG. The number of people choosing petrol powered cars is expected to grow this year, especially in Delhi NCR, as diesel receives more restrictions from the government.

Colours are also another important preference while buying a car. White, grey, and red were the most preferred colours on mass market cars, which seems to be a continuing trend and should continue this year as well. White, black, and blue were the preferred colours for luxury cars, showing that subtlety is the consideration when buying a luxury car.

Metro Cities Love to Own

The majority of our sales came from India’s metropolitan cities. Bangalore saw the most buyers taking the keys of their cars from Spinny, followed by Delhi NCR and Hyderabad. For luxury cars, Delhi NCR took the lead with Bangalore and Mumbai following. Car ownership in general is on the rise across the country and this trend is expected to continue this year, especially in Tier 1 and and Tier 2 cities.

New Spinny Parks are a Crowd Favourite

2023 has been a year of immense progress for Spinny and how we make car buying more convenient and enjoyable. The introduction of Spinny Parks bridged the gap between online and offline worlds for a truly comprehensive car buying experience. these large dedicated experiential spaces feature a wide selection of cars along with test drive zones, community zones, and lounges to give you a premium car buying experience that is unparalleled. The reception to the Spinny Parks has been encouraging with 50% of our deliveries happening at our new Parks in Bangalore, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Kochi. This further reinforces that there is still a place for a physical buying experience when it comes to cars and the Spinny Park is the perfect realization of the ‘phygital’ showroom concept that is slowly making its way to to the automotive world.

The Year Ahead

As we move into 2024, Spinny continues to grow from strength to strength, venturing into new initiatives to bring the best experience possible for you. While our experiential Spinny Parks have just started opening in a few cities, you can expect to see a new Park opening up in your city in the near future. The choice of cars that you can choose from is also constantly growing, with Spinny becoming more accessible to more people while still delivering the high standards of quality you have come to expect from us. The new year is definitely exciting for Spinny and we hope you enjoy the journey with us.
