Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura: ARAI Mileage Figures

When you compare the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura mileages, the most important figure is the ARAI mileage. It is the official figure obtained after tests and certification done by the government agency. The ARAI figures are potential, and the real-world mileage of the Amaze and Aura can be completely different. The table below shows their ARAI mileage.

Engine and Transmission Fuel Type Honda Amaze – ARAI Mileage Hyundai Aura – ARAI Mileage

As per the ARAI testing, the Honda Amaze has a higher fuel efficiency than the Hyundai Aura among the petrol variants. However, the Aura CNG delivers the best ARAI mileage of 28.4 km/kg. Since these figures are a result of tests under controlled conditions, the actual mileage will tell a different story. Factors such as traffic, usage of AC, maintenance, driving style, etc can affect the real-world mileage. At the same time, there may or may not be much difference between the ARAI and actual mileage.

The Amaze petrol mileage is higher for the manual transmission than the automatic. The Amaze city mileage ranges from 9.5 km/l for the CVT to 13.5 km/l for the manual variant. At the same time, the Aura petrol mileage doesn’t fall behind and can achieve anywhere between 11 and 14 km/l, making it slightly better than the Amaze. However, the Aura highway mileage is lower than the Amaze’s. While the Amaze has a highway mileage of 17-20.5 km/l, the Aura is slightly behind with 16-19 km/l.

The Aura CNG mileage delivers the best mileage of 24-28 km/kg on highways. When you compare these with the ARAI figures, the Aura CNG mileage on highways is the closest to the ARAI claims. Similarly, the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura can touch their ARAI claims on highways.

Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura: Fuel Cost Comparison

The reason why fuel efficiency is important is that it affects fuel expenses. When the car delivers a higher fuel efficiency or mileage, the fuel cost will be lower. Here, we will calculate the fuel cost of the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura, assuming each sedan travels a distance of 1500 km per month. We will assume the petrol and CNG prices are Rs. 110 and Rs. 90. The calculated fuel costs of the petrol and CNG variants are given in the table.

Avg. Monthly Fuel Cost₹ 11,000₹ 11,200₹ 5850
Average Yearly Fuel Cost₹ 1.32 lakh₹ 1.34 lakh₹ 70,200
5-Year Fuel Cost₹ 6.60 lakh₹ 6.73 lakh₹ 3.51 lakh

As per these calculations, if you choose the Aura CNG variant, you can save around 6k per month when compared to the petrol variant. This will turn out to be economically beneficial since the yearly savings will be nearly 65k. The most economical petrol option is the Amaze, which is only slightly better than the Aura petrol variant.

Comparing the overall fuel expenses of the petrol with the CNG, you can save around 3 lakhs over 5 years with the CNG. Its excellent fuel efficiency means it doesn’t need frequent refuelling, so the fuel expenses are relatively lower.

Summary

In this compact sedan fuel efficiency comparison between Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura, the Aura gets an edge because of its CNG option. Because of the high CNG mileage, it can help you save money, both on the initial cost and continued fuel cost. If you want a non-CNG sedan, the Amaze is the better option in terms of fuel efficiency and monthly fuel cost. But its ex-showroom price is slightly higher than the Aura. The higher trim of the Amaze costs more than the top-trim Aura CNG.

So, choose the Aura if you are budget-conscious. At the same time, the Amaze offers better comfort, more safety features and a smoother automatic transmission with the CVT. It can be a better family car than the Aura. Since it doesn’t offer a CNG option, the Aura is a more economical option.

FAQs About Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura Real-World Mileage Comparison

  1. Q. Which gives better real-world mileage in city traffic, the Amaze or Aura?

For city drives, the Hyundai Aura is better as they return a higher fuel efficiency than the Amaze. Even though the Amaze has a higher ARAI claim, its city mileage falls below what the Aura returns. Sometimes, its city mileage may drop to 9.5 km/l or lower, depending on the traffic. On the other hand, the Aura can stay steady and consistent with the mileage despite the traffic conditions.

  2. Q. How good is Amaze for frequent short-distance trips?

Its CVT transmission offers a seamless transition, so driving is effortless. Its light steering is highly responsive, making it easy in traffic and while parking. While the Amaze has an exceptional engine that doesn’t clog under emissions and has a smoother CVT transmission, its mileage often drops in the city. The shorter trips frequently mean it needs more fuel, so the mileage will be constantly lower.

  3. Q. Does the Aura offer better fuel economy on highway runs than the Amaze?

Not particularly. In fact, the highway mileage of the Aura and Amaze is close to each other. The Amaze has slightly better mileage by a fraction of 0.5 km/l. The superiority in mileage depends on different factors, mainly on the driving style. If you are driving at a steady speed, then the Aura can deliver around 18-19 km/l mileage, which is more than what its ARAI claims.

  4. Q. Which one performs better when driven on a combination of city roads and highways, Amaze or Aura?

If you have a combination of city and highway driving, then the Honda Amaze would be a better choice. Its engine offers more effortless driving with the CVT transmission, which is better than the Aura’s AMT. The Amaze has better fuel economy and lower fuel cost than the Aura.

  5. Q. Which sedan is likely to have lower fuel costs for mostly city use, Aura or Amaze?

The Aura CNG is a good option for regular city drives. Since it has higher mileage in the city, 18-22 km/kg, it has much lower fuel expenses. Your monthly expenses will be 6k less than the next best petrol option.
