An SBI FASTag helps you to clear the toll fees across the Indian roads and highways without any hassles. As per the RBI norms, all the FASTag accounts that are issued by banks must be KYC verified. If you do not complete the KYC verification after activating your FASTag card, it may lead to its deactivation, suspension, or blocking. There is no need to worry, though, as the KYC procedure can be completed online by following a few steps. The stepwise details, along with information regarding how to check the KYC status, have been provided in the sections below.

What is FASTag KYC, and why is it important?

Completing the KYC verification for a FASTag is mandatory as it associates a FASTag with a single user and vehicle. This restricts the FASTag from unauthorised use. In the past, there have been cases where a single FASTag was used on multiple vehicles or multiple FASTags were used for the same vehicle. To avoid these instances, it is important to get your FASTag KYC updated as soon as possible.

Types of FASTag KYC

There are two types of FASTag KYC, viz., minimal KYC and full KYC. Minimal KYC refers to the process in which the FASTag is activated with minimal documents, such as the RC number, vehicle number, and Aadhaar card. On the other hand, full KYC or complete KYC verification means validating the user’s personal identity and vehicle. More details regarding these FASTag KYC types are given in the table below:

The photos must reflect the number plates of the vehicle along with the windshield where the FASTag is affixed.
  2. Proof of Identity: A PAN Card, Voter’s ID, Aadhaar Card, Passport, or a Driving Licence can be used to verify your identity during the FASTag KYC verification.
  3. Proof of Address: Any utility bill or Aadhaar card can be submitted to verify your address.

A passport-sized photograph also needs to be submitted along with these documents. These documents can also be submitted by visiting the nearest SBI Bank branch.

How to Check SBI Bank FASTag KYC Status?

The following steps will help you to check your KYC update status:

Step 1: Visit the official website of SBI Bank FASTag. Log in with your mobile number and password.

Step 2: Go to the ‘My Profile’ tab first. Here, you will find an option called ‘KYV Upload.’ Click on it and check the status of the documents you’ve uploaded for KYC verification.

If the status shows as pending, it means that the KYC verification is in process. If the status shows as approved, it means that your KYC verification has been successful. If the status is reflected as rejected, it means that your KYC update request has been declined due to inappropriate or expired documents.

What Happens if FASTag KYC is Not Updated?

If the FASTag KYC is not updated, you might have to face these issues:

  • Your FASTag might be temporarily suspended in the beginning. However, if you do not update the KYC for a long time, it may be permanently blacklisted or deactivated.
  • You will not be able to clear the toll payments digitally with a suspended or deactivated FASTag. In this case, you’ll have to make cash payments. For non-FASTag payments, the toll charges are usually double the standard fee.

Common Issues While Updating KYC & Fixes

Here are some common issues that you can face while updating the KYC documents:

  1. Unclear Vehicle/RC Images

If the vehicle images or RC photographs you’ve uploaded are not clear enough, the KYC update request will be rejected. To avoid this, ensure that the photographs you upload are clear and of high-quality.

  1. Mismatched Details

The KYC update request can also be rejected if your details, such as date of birth, name, etc., that are present on various documents do not match exactly. So, it is recommended that you cross-check these details before uploading them for FASTag KYC verification.

  1. Invalid Documents

Invalid or expired documents can lead to the rejection of the KYC verification request. Therefore, you must avoid uploading documents that are invalid or expired.
