Mahindra has added a factory-fitted CNG option to its compact SUV, the XUV 3XO, starting at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s officially called the XUV 3XO ZNG. Test drives began on October 15, and bookings and deliveries start on October 20 through Mahindra dealerships and the company’s website. The CNG version sits alongside the existing petrol, diesel and electric versions. It’s aimed at buyers who want lower running costs without giving up performance or everyday practicality.

Variant-Wise Pricing
| Variant | Ex-Showroom Price |
| MX Edge | ₹9.99 lakh |
| RevX Edge (O) | ₹10.79 lakh |
| AX5 | ₹11.19 lakh |
| RevX A | ₹12.27 lakh |
The CNG variants cost about ₹89,000 to ₹1 lakh more than the matching petrol-manual variants. The RevX Edge (O) and AX5 CNG are still cheaper than their diesel-manual versions.
Engine, Performance and Mileage
The XUV 3XO CNG uses Mahindra’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Most CNG cars lose power when running on gas, but this one doesn’t: it makes the same 112 PS and 200 Nm on CNG as on petrol.
Mahindra credits this to a retuned turbocharger, revised engine management and a 10-bar CNG injection system, which it says is a segment first. The claimed fuel efficiency is 24.7 km/kg.
You can switch between petrol and CNG manually, and the car switches to petrol on its own when CNG runs low. A fast-fill CNG valve cuts refuelling time, and the instrument cluster shows both average and real-time fuel efficiency.
Practicality and Boot Space
The CNG is stored in two cylinders with a combined capacity of 60 litres (water-equivalent), mounted under the boot floor. That keeps the boot floor flat and gives 270 litres of usable space, 94 litres less than the regular XUV 3XO’s 364 litres. The spare wheel is mounted under the car. Mahindra has also returned the springs, dampers and anti-roll bar to carry the extra weight at the rear, so the ride and handling stay close to those of the standard model.
Design and Features
The CNG variant is otherwise the same as the standard XUV 3XO, so much so that the two variants look the same at first glance. The only way to tell the difference is a small ZNG badge on the tailgate. The CNG comes with optional extras like projector headlamps, connected tail-lights, body-coloured front grilles, and 16-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the XUV3XO CNG is largely similar too, with the same set of features available across variants. The biggest highlights include a panoramic sunroof, dual 10.25-inch infotainment and instrument clusters, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, black leatherette seats, and a premium Dolby Atmos sound system.
Safety
Every variant comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX child-seat mounts, 4-wheel disc brakes and three-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard. The CNG system also has gas-leak detection that switches the engine to petrol automatically if a leak is found.
The regular XUV 3XO has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Mahindra says the CNG version is built on the same structure, but it hasn’t published a separate crash-test rating for it yet.
Market Competition
The XUV 3XO CNG goes up against the Tata Nexon CNG (from about ₹8.3 lakh) and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG (from about ₹9.3 lakh), and it’s the strongest of the three. Its 112 PS and 200 Nm beat the Tata Nexon CNG’s 100 PS and 170 Nm, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG’s 88 PS and 122 Nm by an even wider margin. The XUV 3XO CNG also keeps that full output in CNG mode, and its claimed 24.7 km/kg is still very competitive. Add the twin-screen setup, panoramic sunroof and Dolby Atmos on the higher variants, and the XUV 3XO CNG has the most power and some of the most premium features in the segment. The Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG have slightly bigger boots, but if you care about performance and features, the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG is the one to beat.
Summary
The XUV 3XO CNG fixes the biggest complaint about CNG cars losing power. Its turbocharged 1.2-litre engine makes the same 112 PS and 200 Nm on CNG as on petrol, and it still returns a claimed 24.7 km/kg, so it’s the strongest factory-fitted CNG option in the segment. The twin cylinders under the floor keep the boot flat and usable, though at 270 litres it’s smaller than the regular XUV 3XO’s and the rivals’. Prices run from ₹9.99 lakh to ₹12.27 lakh. If you drive a lot every day and want low running costs without giving up performance or features, the XUV 3XO CNG is a strong choice.
