After another successful year for the Korean brand, selling over 6 lakh units in 2021, ranging from hatchbacks to SUVs. With this, their sights have been set for the next year with plans to release more than one electric vehicle and bring their MUVs to the Indian market. With more than 60,000+ vehicles sold in India this year, these upcoming Hyundai cars in India will surely boost the numbers. Some of these cars are expected to launch in the next 3 months. 

Let’s explore a few of the upcoming Hyundai cars in India, including SUVs, MPV and  EVs, which are expected to be on sale in 2023–2024.

Hyundai IONIQ 5

This upcoming Hyundai EV is set to be a five-seater SUV and has already been released in the international market. With its futuristic looks, it has taken the (International Car of the Year award as well. This car has been spotted testing in Chennai on multiple occasions and its launch is speculated to be in November. 

Talking about specs, Hyundai currently offers two battery pack options for the IONIQ: a 58kWh battery pack with a range of 384 km, and a 72.6kWh battery pack with a range of 481 km. There are four trims available: SE Standard, SE, SEL, and Limited. The standard is the only version that receives the smaller 58kWh battery option and is also RWD only producing 168hp with a claimed range of 354 km. The SE, SEL, and the Limited are all powered by the larger 77.4kWh battery pack and are AWD thanks to the dual motors which produce up to 320hp. The claimed range of all these 3 trims is 487 km (RWD mode only) and 411km (AWD mode). For India however, nothing is confirmed yet. It is rumoured that Hyundai will only provide the 58 kWh for this upcoming Hyundai car in India.

The manufacturer claims that a 350kW charger can charge both the 58kWh battery and the 77.4kWh battery from 0 to 80% in about 18 minutes and a 50kW charger can fully charge the smaller battery in 43 minutes and the bigger battery in 56.6 minutes

As usual with most Hyundai cars, it will be feature-rich, including a dual integrated 12.3-inch infotainment/driver display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and a heads-up display. In terms of passenger safety, the car gets seven airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESC), an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), and a 360-degree camera. The price is expected to be Rs 50 Lakh and will compete against the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Kia EV6.

Hyundai Alcazar Facelift

This popular six and seven-seater from Hyundai is all set to get a facelift next year. With the car already being spied testing in Korea, it now features a slightly tweaked front grill and has borrowed design aspects from its little brother, the Venue. Unlike the other upcoming Hyundai cars in India, the Alcazar facelift will retain the current 2L petrol engines producing 158 hp and the 1.5L diesel engine producing 113 hp. Both engine options will have a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission option and will get the same traction and driving modes. 

As previously mentioned, it will retain the dual 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and the driver, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient colour lighting, and a 360-degree camera. The only notable safety update will be the inclusion of an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) while keeping the multiple airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and a front and reverse camera. Expected to launch in January 2023 at a starting price of Rs 16 lakh, this upcoming Hyundai car in India, will rival MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV700.

Hyundai Nexo

It is rumoured that this Hyundai has received approval from the Indian government to import this car into India for testing. The company is also considering launching this car in India which means that the Nexo will be the only Hydrogen-powered electric SUV from the upcoming Hyundai cars in India as well as the only Hydrogen electric SUV in India. 

This will be the first Hyundai hydrogen fuel cell car in India and will work on a completely different technology to create electricity. This will be done through fuel cells which combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity and the only emission of this is clear water. It is expected to produce 160 hp and around 400 Nm of torque. The company claims a range of 1000 km in India, despite only showing a range of 600 km in Europe. 

The Nexo will feature heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof, a powered tailgate, a digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and wireless charging. Moreover, the international spec of the Nexo gets adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision assistance, and park assist, so we can also expect these features to come here. It is expected to launch in March 2023 with a price tag of Rs 65 lakh. 

The Hyundai fuel cell car will go up against the Toyota Mirai, another hydrogen fuel cell car that is being considered for India.

Hyundai Stargazer

The Stargazer will be one of the two MUVs in the upcoming Hyundai cars in India. A 1.5L petrol producing 113hp will power it. It will have three trims which all feature the same engine option. 

The Stargazer is expected to have an 8-inch touch unit which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a smart keyless entry feature and dual airbags, with the premium trims receiving electronic stability control, hill-start assists, a reversing camera with parking sensors, rear alert, forward, blind-spot, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, driver-attention warning and a tire-pressure monitoring system.

It is expected to launch in March 2023 with a price tag of Rs 10 lakh.

Hyundai Ioniq 6

This upcoming Hyundai EV was first unveiled in 2020, and later showcased in 2022. The India version of the Ioniq will be electric-only, will have distinct design feature elements, and will be 25% lighter than other Hyundai cars thanks to an aluminium forged boot lid and hood.

Speaking of the hood, the Ioniq features a 53kWh and a 77kWh dual battery pack option which claims to produce 320hp and 605 Nm of torque under the bonnet. The manufacturer claims a range of 610 km on a single charge. This sedan is based on an electric global modular platform (E-GMP) which is shared with the IONIQ 5. The car will feature a 12-inch touchscreen for infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Safety features will include seven airbags, blind spot detection, autonomous braking, lane change assist, Hyundai Smart Sense technology, advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), connected car features, and adaptive cruise control. 

The IONIQ is stated to be a luxury offering amongst the upcoming Hyundai cars in India and is expected to launch in April 2023 and be positioned above the IONIQ 5. It is rumoured to be a CKD unit.

Hyundai Staria

The second MPV offering from the upcoming Hyundai cars in India, the Staria is confirmed to be a customizable MPV with a seating capacity of up to 9 people, with an optional 11-seater version, which sadly may not make the Indian shores. It is expected to be offered in petrol and hybrid variants, with a special 3.5L petrol variant producing 290 hp and 338 Nm of torque along with an 8-speed transmission. 

It will also have a futuristic design but an overall boxy shape with smooth edges well complemented by its distinct 18-inch alloy wheels. 

Speaking on the feature front, it will be a tech-loaded car with a 10.25-inch floating infotainment touchscreen paired with a digital instrument cluster as well. along with, an electric drive mode selector, and a 64-colour ambient mood lamp.

It is expected to launch in April 2023, with an estimated price above Rs 20 lakh. The car will directly compete with the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Innova. 

Hyundai Palisade

The flagship SUV from the house of Hyundai, the Palisade is the only SUV among all the upcoming Hyundai cars in India. It was introduced at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. 

The Palisade is based on a new platform and will be offered with two powertrains: a 2.2L turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.3L turbocharged V6. The latter two drive the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. 

The base model comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, power-adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn signals and a panoramic sunroof. The Premium model adds to the list LED headlights, leather upholstery and dual-zone climate control. The top-of-the-line Limited trim comes with all of the above plus heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. It is expected to launch in August 2023 with an estimated price tag of Rs 40 lakh. It will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and the MG Gloster.
