Honda has taken the covers off the concept of its future midsize SUV at GIIAS 2021 in Indonesia. Honda RS Concept is projecting a marvelous car from the Japanese auto giant in the not-so-distant future and looks sportier than its rivals including Hyundai Creta and Kia Sonet. The Honda RS Concept-based SUV is expected to be introduced in Indonesia first and other markets including Indian will welcome it in the next few years. Let’s get to know the Honda RS Concept better.

Honda RS Concept SUV: Design & DimensionsHonda RS Concept

Although, the specific dimensions haven’t been revealed, apparently it looks to be within 4300 mm in length and its wheelbase looks similar to that of the Honda City. The SUV will be based on the Honda City or BR-V platform. The design renders it as the smallest SUV from Honda and looks much similar to that of the bigger SUV, Honda HR-V, which is expected to launch in December 2021.

The front facia sports angular wraparound headlamps connected by a sleek grille that finely gels in with the front bumper. The bumper is simply crafted with a wide air dam and slat-designed fog lamps.Honda RS Concept

The tapering roofline and skewed tailgate give it a coupe-esque appearance. It has a slightly muscular shoulder line, chunky cladding in the nether part of the doors, and wheel arches house the matte-black coloured alloy wheels. The RS Concept has a very prominent C-pillar and accents its racked-design tailgate. The rear of the SUV sports a faux skid plate and slim LED tail lamps that are horizontally situated and linked by a faux light bar.

Honda RS Concept SUV: PowertrainsHonda RS Concept

Honda has kept the powertrain details confidential. However, sources suggest the Honda RS Concept-based midsize SUV will have the same 1.5L petrol engine as the Honda City sold overseas. The transmission options are expected to be a 5-Speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Honda RS Concept SUV: Launch in India

While Honda has not directly confirmed the RC Concept SUV for the Indian market, the Japanese manufacturer is focused on adding SUVs to its portfolio. The compact SUV and mid-size SUV Honda plans on launching in the coming years will be based on the Honda City platform. If the RS Concept SUV is any indication for what to expect from a Honda SUV in India, then there are exciting times ahead for Honda enthusiasts.
