Tata Motors recently launched the facelifted Tata Altroz premium hatchback. Unlike typical facelifts, the new Tata Altroz has come in with plenty of updates, so much so that it seems like a new generation of the hatchback, as it is far more premium than the pre-facelift model. Considering its entire offering, the new Tata Altroz is not only a strong rival of the Hyundai i20 premium hatchback but also a worthy alternative to the Hyundai Venue compact SUV. Yes, you read it right. The new Tata Altroz can be a sensible alternative to the Hyundai Venue and can save you a significant amount if you choose it over the Korean compact SUV. Here is a detailed comparison of Tata Altroz vs Hyundai Venue, wherein we compare the two on decisive checkpoints and find out which one suits your use case better.

The Hyundai Venue is 5 mm longer, 15 mm wider, 94 mm taller, and has a negligibly shorter wheelbase compared to the Tata Altroz. However, these differences in measurements are not big enough to make a significant difference in spaciousness for five passengers in both cars, except for the fact that the Venue offers slightly better headroom.

As far as designs are concerned, while the Hyundai Venue and Tata Altroz belong to completely different categories of car body type, there are some details that can impact your decision. The Hyundai Venue is a simple, sophisticated-looking compact SUV, and to a considerable degree, it looks like a miniaturised Hyundai Creta, despite its slightly aggressive face that features a chromed parametric grille. Its overall silhouette is a boxy one, though there is a raked rear windshield and curvy edges and corners that add a calm demeanour.

On the other hand, the Tata Altroz looks sporty and more eye-catching. Its aggressive face features a lot of sharp cuts and creases with a slim grille that gets layered rectangular elements to create a 3D effect. The grille neatly merges into swept-back headlamps, while the blacked-out bumper features a trapezoidal air intake. On the side, the Altroz highlights its flush-fitting door handles – a feature even cars of a segment above do not get, and stylish EV-like 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Hyundai Venue is marginally larger than the Tata Altroz, and both cars offer almost a similar amount of space in their cabins. Looks-wise, the Hyundai Venue is a decent-looking compact SUV, while the Tata Altroz looks sportier.

Starting the Tata Altroz, it offers two engines: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is slightly more powerful than the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine of the Hyundai Venue, and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, which makes it the only hatchback in India to offer a diesel engine. The Altroz only looks sporty and can not deliver a sporty performance. It has been engineered for pleasant drives that get complemented by a capable suspension system, which is much better than that of the Hyundai Venue. Moreover, the Altroz offers the option of CNG-powered models, which go a long way in keeping the running cost as low as possible.

On the other hand, while the naturally aspirated engine of the Hyundai Venue is slightly weaker than that of Altroz, it has proven itself an impressively refined and reliable engine. Moreover, it delivers enough power to meet your daily driving requirements. Its power-packed turbo petrol engine is what makes it an exciting compact SUV to drive, complemented by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the Venue’s 1.5-litre diesel engine is one of the best-selling diesel engines in the market. It is surprisingly refined and delivers good mileage.

An important point to consider is that the Tata Altroz offers an AMT and DCT automatic with the naturally aspirated petrol engine. Whereas, the Hyundai Venue offers automatic (7-speed DCT) only with the turbo petrol engine.

The Hyundai Venue offers more refined and reliable engine offerings as well as a more exciting performance as compared to the Tata Altroz. Whereas, the Tata Altroz offers the advantage of CNG-powered models and a better ride comfort due to a better suspension setup.
