Suzuki’s eVX concept from 2024 has been revealed in its production guise as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The Maruti e Vitara, co-developed with Toyota, represents Maruti Suzuki’s first foray into the electric vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki is not taking any more time tan needed and plans on launching its EV by March 2025. The Maruti e Vitara will be offered with two battery options, with an AWD option also being present.

Key Highlights

  • To be equipped with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs
  • Large infotainment displays and Level 2 ADAS confirmed

What is the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara?

Suzuki has been teasing an entry in the electric vehicle segment for a while. With Toyota’s partnership, Suzuki has finally managed to bring a capable electric SUV to market. The Maruti e Vitara started life as the Suzuki eVX concept, and for the most part, stays true to the design Suzuki showed us in 2023. The Maruti e Vitara has been built on a dedicated EV platform, co-developed with Toyota, and enters the mid-size electric SUV space.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Battery & Range

One question that everyone has in their mind is whether Maruti’s reputation for mileage will carry over to its electric cars as well. With the larger 61kWh battery, Maruti does claim a range of over 500 km from a single charge. The other battery on offer, a 49kWh unit, will have a shorter range and a lower cost. Both batteries use Lithium Iron-Phosphate (LFP) blade cell batteries from BYD, showing Maruti Suzuki is leaving no stone unturned to achieve good range for their EVs.

The two battery pack options will also be equipped with different motor configurations. The smaller battery comes equipped with a single motor that is capable of producing 144 HP and 189 Nm. The larger battery comes with two motor configuration options. You can expect the most range from the single motor producing 174 HP and 189 Nm, while the dual motor configuration, with 184 HP and 300 Nm, gives the e Vitara AWD capabilities.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Exterior

The design of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is both familiar and futuristic. If you have been paying attention to Maruti’s recent cars, you will see many familiar elements on the e Vitara. The front and rear of the e Vitara is similar to the Maruti Brezza, featuring a straight bonnet and muscular fenders. The headlights and tail lights feature a three line design, giving the e Vitara a sharp look. The side profile has a mix of the Fronx and Grand Vitara. Overall the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara brings the best of Maruti’s recent designs.

In terms of size, the Maruti e Vitara is 4,275 mm long, 1,800 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall, with a ground clearance of 180 mm. Being an electric SUV, Suzuki has managed to maximise cabin space with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Interior

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara dashboard

The interior of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is where Suzuki has chosen to differentiate from its other cars. The e Vitara features leather soft-touch materials on the dashboard, which now features a new steering wheel and display layout. Like its competitors, the e Vitara also features a new two-spoke steering wheel with steering mounted control for the MID and infotainment system. Speaking of which, the MID and infotainment system displays (10.23-inch each) are now housed as a single unit, elevating the e Vitara to bring it at par with its competition. The centre console is also all new, with a drive mode selector and electronic parking brake.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Price & Competitors

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara arrives in time to compete against the recently launched Hyundai Creta EV. Interestingly, the Creta EV also boasts a similar 500+ km range. The electric showdown will be interesting to see between the two largest manufacturers in India. The recently launched Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the MG Windsor will be the other competitors against the e Vitara. Expect the price for the e Vitara to be between Rs. 15 to 25 lakh.
