2026 Mahindra Thar OG Launched at Rs 10.32 Lakh

Mahindra has launched the updated Mahindra Thar OG with a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh (ex-showroom). This comprehensive update of the iconic 3-door Thar not only adds a new ‘OG’ suffix to its name, but also brings a new-gen platform, updated suspension and steering, more powerful engine options, design updates, and more safety features. 2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Engine & Transmission

Like the previous Mahindra Thar, the Mahindra Thar OG is offered with three engines. The entry-level 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine produces 119 PS power and 300 Nm torque and comes with only a 6-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the other two engines are available with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine now produces 152 PS power and 330 Nm torque. In the previous model, this engine produced 134 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Likewise, the 2-litre turbo petrol engine, which produced 152 PS and 300 Nm in the outgoing model, now produces 162 PS and 330 Nm. Below is a table of all engine and transmission details.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: New Platform & Suspension

The Mahindra Thar OG is based on Mahindra’s M_Glyde 4G platform, which debuted with the Mahindra Thar Roxx. The brand claims that this platform is stronger than the previous one. In addition to a new platform, the new Thar OG borrows the rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link from the Mahindra Thar Roxx. According to Mahindra, this suspension controls the rear axle’s lateral movement better than before.

The Mahindra Thar OG also comes with Mahindra’s “DAVINCI” damping technology in all its variants. The top model, Thar OG ZXT, adds Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) to this setup. Mahindra claims that the updated suspension setup will deliver a more comfortable ride than the previous model.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Off-roading Capability Updates

The Mahindra Thar OG is equipped with a new Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), which can electronically lock the rear axle so that the engine sends power to the wheel with maximum grip. This helps the SUV gain better traction on slippery surfaces like mud and sand. Another key update is electronic power steering, which replaces the hydraulic power steering. This should make low-speed manoeuvring and parking easier. Moreover, the Thar OG comes with dedicated terrain modes like Mud, Sand, and Snow, available only on 4WD variants of the LXT and ZXT trims.

The Mahindra Thar OG is 3,995 mm long, 1,870 mm wide, 1,855 mm tall, with a 2,450 mm wheelbase and 232 mm of ground clearance.

Continuing its signature boxy design, the Mahindra Thar OG adds new design elements for a fresh look. The new Thar OG’s front fascia features a redesigned grille with 4 vertical slats instead of 6, like the outgoing Mahindra Thar. There is also new ‘Thar’ branding on the grille. The new circular LED projector headlamps with signature C-shaped daytime running lights are borrowed from the larger Thar Roxx. The fog lamps are now LED and have been moved up to the front fenders. The revised front and rear bumpers are larger than before, with a wider track. In profile, the only notable change is the new 19-inch alloys, offered only with the top-spec ZXT trim. At the rear, the Thar OG gets ‘OG’ branding on the tailgate, and the new design of the tailgate-mounted spare wheel gives the SUV an updated look.

The existing exterior colour options, including Everest White, Tango Red, Stealth Black, Battleship Grey, Galaxy Grey, and Deep Forest, are still offered with the Mahindra Thar OG. However, two new colour options are available: Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue.

2026 Mahindra Thar OG: Interior & Features

Inside, the Mahindra Thar OG retains the overall interior layout of the outgoing Mahindra Thar. The new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery ups the premium quotient, and Mahindra has added a second-row armrest with cup holders. The Thar OG SUV retains an upright dashboard, a three-spoke steering wheel, circular AC vents, and toggle switches on the centre console.

In terms of features, the Mahindra Thar OG retains the Thar’s feature list, including cruise control, manual AC, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a height-adjustable driver seat, power-adjustable ORVMs, a 6-speaker sound system, and a manual day/night IRVM. Notable additions include Zip and Zoom drive modes, a rear USB charging port, a wireless charger, and a colour MID in the instrument cluster.

For passenger safety, the Mahindra Thar OG’s AXT and LXT variants continue with dual airbags, front discs, and rear drum brakes. Meanwhile, the top ZXT variant now comes with 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, and a rear camera.
