The popular German carmaker has launched the new generation Volkswagen Tiguan R Line at the starting price of Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is Volkswagen India’s flagship SUV and will be imported as CBU units. It marks the debut of Volkswagen’s R-Line range in India. Compared to the outgoing Tiguan, which was priced at Rs 38.17 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is nearly Rs 10 lakh more expensive. Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: Dimensions and Design

The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is 4,539 mm long, 1,859 mm wide, 1,656 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm, ground clearance of 176 mm, and 652 litres of boot space. Compared to the previous model, the new-gen Volkswagen Tiguan R Line looks quite different and substantially more modern. Up front, there are sleeker LED headlamps connected by striking gloss black plastic trim with an LED DRL strip and Volkswagen logo in the middle. Lower down, there is a huge mesh-patterned air dam with a silver-finished bottom. Over to the side, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line gets dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, chrome-delineated window house, and slim gloss-black cladding. At the rear, the Tiguan R Line features a large light bar with a smoked effect near the tail lamps area, a gloss black bumper with a similar mesh pattern as the front, and a roof spoiler up above. Setting it apart from the standard Volkswagen Tiguan is ‘R’ badges on the grille and front fenders. The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is available in six colour options: Cipressino Green Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect, Oyster Silver Metallic and Persimmon Red Metallic.
Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: Interior and Features

On the inside, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line’s cabin has an all-black colour scheme with blue stitching on the dashboard and front sports seats. The dashboard’s design is layered and highlights a gloss black trim that runs across the width with subtle pixelated lighting elements. Moreover, there is a three-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with ‘R’ badging, a 10.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster, and a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which lies on the dashboard. While the front section gets sports seats, the rear gets the conventional bench seat. All the seats have leatherette upholstery with blue contrast stitching.
In terms of features, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Like offers a panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, brushed stainless steel pedals, wireless charging for up to two phones, an 8-speaker audio system, a coloured head-up display, heated front seats with massage function and electric lumbar support functions. A key high-end feature of the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is Volkswagen’s Park Assist Plus tech, which can search for suitable parking spaces and park the SUV without any input from the driver. For safety equipment, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line features 9 airbags as standard, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, disc brakes on all four wheels, a Level-2 ADAS safety suite, and more.
Volkswagen Tiguan R Line: Engine and Transmission
The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 204 PS power and 320 Nm peak torque. Via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this engine transmits power to all four wheels. The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line can sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr in 7.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 229 km/hr. Volkswagen claims a fuel efficiency of 12.58 km/l for the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.

Priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is nearly 11 lakh more expensive than the previous Volkswagen Tiguan, which was priced at Rs 38.17 lakh (ex-showroom). As far as competition is concerned, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line rivals the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Jeep Meridian, Citroen C5 Aircross, Nissan X-Trail, and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
