The popular German auto giant has launched the Volkswagen Golf GTI at Rs. 53 lakh (ex-showroom). Available in a single variant – Mk 8.5, the Golf GTI will be imported as CBU (Completely Built-Up) units. The first batch of 150 units was already pre-booked before the launch, and considering the demand, Volkswagen plans to import another 100 units. In India, with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 53 lakh, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is the most expensive Volkswagen car and the second performance-oriented GTI model from Volkswagen after the Polo GTI (discontinued). Here is a closer look at the Volkswagen Golf GTI.

2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI: Dimensions and Design

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is 4,289 mm long, 1,789 mm wide, 1,471 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,627 mm. It has a ground clearance of 136 mm and offers a boot space of 380 litres.

As a large sporty hatchback, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is designed to look the part. Its front end features Matrix LED headlights linked by a slim full-width LED DRL, and an illuminated VW logo. The Sleek red detailing and a GTI badge on the grille, the aggressive honeycomb pattern on the bumper, and the 5-piece fog lamps that form an X-pattern give the hatchback a racy face. Over to the side, the key highlights are the 18-inch dual-tone alloys with red brake callipers and a clean, tidy silhouette with clean panels. Compared to the standard Golf, the Golf GTI sits lower. At the rear, the Golf GTI features wrap-around LED tail lights with smoked-out treatment, a prominent roof spoiler, dual exhaust, and a bold rear bumper.

In India, Volkswagen is offering the Golf GTI in four colour options: Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White, and Kings Red Metallic.

As most modern high-end cars, the Volkswagen Golf GTI gets a minimalist interior layout. On the layered dashboard, there is a large 12.9-inch touchscreen for infotainment and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Moreover, there is a chunky leather-wrapped three-spoke steering and sports front seats with thick bolstering on sides and the iconic Tartan upholstery.

In terms of features, the Golf GTI packs a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 30-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, heated front seats, 3-zone climate control, wireless phone charger, and a 7-speaker sound system.

For the safety equipment, the Golf GTI offers seven airbags, a rear-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX anchors, electronic stability control (ESC), front and rear parking sensors, and Level 2 ADAS with features like auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and rear traffic alert.

2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI: Engine and Transmission

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine, which generates 265 PS power and 370 Nm torque. This engine also powers the recently launched Volkswagen Tiguan R Line. With a front-wheel-drive setup, the Golf GTI is equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It also gets launch control and an electronically controlled front-axle differential lock. The Golf GTI can sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr in 5.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 267 km/hr. For reference, its rival, the Mini Cooper S, takes 6.6 seconds to do a 0 to 100 km/hr dash and can speed up to 242 km/hr. Being a performance-oriented hot hatch, the Golf GTI gets some mechanical advancements such as a quicker steering rack, a stiffer suspension setup for better agility, stronger brakes, and more.
