Tata Motors is all set to unveil its latest sedan named Aeris, with an official launch scheduled for September 25. The automaker has shared a teaser video of the upcoming car, which will receive its first major update and rebrand under the new name.
Design and Styling Changes
The front end appears to be more streamlined than the current Tigor, with thin LED headlamps and a narrow DRL strip just above them. The teaser also indicates that it will come with LED fog lights (the Tigor does not have them), new taillights, standard pull-type door handles and a new purple exterior colour.
The car will likely have the same tapering roofline as the Tigor, based on previous design patent applications, with side reflectors on the rear bumper. Plus, it’s going to be equipped with a fresh set of wheels, which will be 15 inches in diameter, like the current sedan. The Aeris has been put through a facelift, but is said to be using different sheet metal. The Tigor EV will be built on a familiar design aesthetic to the petrol engine version, but with EV styling elements.
Interior Features and Equipment
The official details of the cabins are yet to be announced, but it is estimated that the design will be based on the recently launched Tiago. The car is anticipated to boast a completely revamped dashboard and a standalone touchscreen infotainment system. Other features that should be included are powered ORVMs, automatic climate control, 6 airbags, rear AC vents and fast-charging ports.
Powertrain Options and Pricing
The company is considering using the Tigor powertrains for the entry-level model. The petrol version has a 1.2-litre motor and is offered with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Meanwhile, the petrol-CNG will also have the same gear selections. But the electric Aeris EV will be running on the 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery packs of the Tiago EV.
The product’s market price will also be observed to shift with the introduction of the new car. The Tigor is priced at Rs 5.55 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh (ex-showroom), and the EV variant will range from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh. Similarly, the electric Aeris is also expected to cost a similar price as compared to the Tiago EV. It may also come with an option of a Battery-as-a-Subscription (BaaS) ownership model to reduce the cost of ownership.
With the September 25 launch just around the corner, more official information about variant options, exact specifications and final pricing is likely to be announced, which will be a strategic overhaul of Tata Motors’ compact sedan range offering.
