Six airbags have started becoming common sight in cars nowadays, however, a couple of decades ago, even a driver airbag was hard to find on Indian cars. Maruti Suzuki is one car maker that has often come under fire for a lack of safety features in its cars. Quite simply, the Indian car market has long been a highly price sensitive market and offering the most advanced safety tech could often price cars out of the hands of budget car buyers.
In recent years though, the Indian government has been taking corrective steps to make Indian cars safer by mandating certain safety features in all of them, including dual airbags. The government is also discussing making 6 airbags mandatory on all cars in the future. While Maruti Suzuki was slow to react in the beginning, the Indian car maker has been moving quickly on its feet in recent times and now offers 6 airbags as standard on many of its cars. Many other cars from the brand offer 6 airbags at least on the top variant, and Maruti Suzuki plans to make 6 airbags standard on all its cars by the end of 2025.
Here’s a look at the Maruti Suzuki cars that are currently available with six airbags. Furthermore, we also take a look at which cars offer them as standard and which cars still only get them on the top variants.

The Eeco is the spiritual successor to the Omni in the Indian market and as such, it carries a lot of the same hallmarks that made the Omni so popular among Indians. A short bonnet, the engine bay located underneath the front passenger seats, and loads of space in the second half of the passenger cabin which can be accessed by sliding doors. The Eeco offers great utility value as it can haul passengers and cargo both.
With the Eeco being a bread and butter model for Maruti Suzuki, and the Indian car maker migrating to 6 airbags on all its cars, the Eeco too received an update that gave it six airbags. However, the surprising fact is that Maruti Suzuki did not stop there, and instead also gave it the Electronic Stability Program or ESP. In fact, the Celerio is the first Indian car ever to be launched with an AMT in 2014, and is one of the primary reasons why automatic transmissions have become so popular in recent years. Those of you who are looking to save on fuel bills also have the option of CNG, although it is only limited to the manual transmission.
When you look at the safety tech onboard the Celerio, you will find that six airbags and ESP are both standard on all variants of the hatchback. Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Jimny is one of the most different cars in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup. While most of the cars made by the Indian car maker are high volume models designed to appeal to the masses, the Jimny is a purpose-bred SUV designed to take on the toughest roads. The Jimny’s small size plays to its advantage as the SUV’s light weight design means that it is relatively easier to get out of a tricky situation. The presence of 4×4 hardware along with a dedicated low-range gearbox also makes the Jimny a beast to drive off the beaten path. The Jimny is relatively low on features but what it loses in features, it makes up for in sheer driving enjoyment.
The Jimny’s safety net consists of 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, hill descent control and ISOFIX mounting points for a child seat. The Jimny also has a braking induced limited slip differential that helps channel power to the wheel with more traction when driving over slippery terrain. At first glance, it might seem like that the Grand Vitara features two naturally aspirated petrol engines. However, a closer look reveals that the first one is married to a mild hybrid system, and can be equipped with both manual and automatic transmissions, factory-fitted CNG kit (manual only) and even AWD (with automatic only). On the other hand, the second petrol engine is mated to an electric motor and makes for a strong hybrid powertrain that is highly fuel efficient and is only available with an automatic transmission.
All variants of the Grand Vitara are offered with six airbags as standard. Like other Maruti’s, ESP, hill hold assist and ISOFIX child seat mounting points are standard across the range as well.
