The popular Korean carmaker has launched the Kia Carens Clavis at the starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kia Carens Clavis is a more premium version of the Kia Carens, which is currently on sale. To set it apart from the Kia Carens, the Kia Carens Clavis gets some design updates and is more feature-loaded. Sharing its powertrains with Kia Carens, the Kia Carens Clavis is available in seven variants – HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+(O), HTX and HTX+. Here is everything you need to know about the Kia Carens Clavis.

Kia Carens Clavis: Design

To position it as a more upmarket MUV, the Kia Carens features Kia’s latest design language that consists of a ‘digital tiger face,’ as seen on Kia’s flagship, Kia EV9. Its face features slim LED DRLs that neatly extend into a triangular housing for the LED headlamps. Unlike many modern cars, the DRLs are not connected via any light bar. Meanwhile, the grille is closed off, and lower down the bumper, there is a blacked-out air intake and silver bash plate, much like the Kia Syros. While the overall silhouette is the same as that of the Kia Carens, the Kia Carens Clavis gets new dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels. The rear profile is also quite similar to that of the Kia Carens, however, the LED light bar that connects the tail lights is thicker on the Kia Carens Clavis.

The Kia Carens Clavis will be available in 8 monotone colour options: Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Clear White, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey, Sparkling Silver, and Ivory Silver Gloss.

Like the Kia Carens, the Kia Carens Clavis is available in 6-seater and 7-seater layouts. On the inside, the Kia Carens Clavis gets a different dashboard design than the Kia Carens, a lighter dual-tone navy and beige colour theme, and Kia’s new dual-display setup as seen on the Kia Seltos. This set-up is made up of a 12.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Meanwhile, it also gets a fresh design for AC vents, while the flat-bottom two-spoke steering is something the Clavis shares with the Kia Syros.

As mentioned, the Kia Carens Clavis is more feature-loaded than the Kia Carens. While the Kia Carens Clavis shares many features with the Kia Carens, it gets a couple of notable additions that are a panoramic sunroof and a 4-way powered driver seat.

On the passenger safety front, the Kia Carens Clavis features everything that the Kia Carens does, for example, six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, disc brake on all wheels, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, front and rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. However, what the Clavis additionally offers is a Level-2 ADAS safety suite that brings advanced features such as Front Collision Warning, Front Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop and Go, Blind Spot Collision Warning, and more.

Kia Carens Clavis: Engine & Transmission

The Kia Carens Clavis shares its engine and transmission options with the Kia Carens. It offers a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which makes 115 PS power and 144 Nm torque. The second engine option is a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, which makes 160 PS power and 253 Nm torque. This engine is known for its high-power figures and is also offered with the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Verna, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos, and Kia Carens. The third engine option is a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, which generates 116 PS power and 250 Nm torque. All three engines get the option of a 6-speed manual transmission, while a 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT automatic are also offered with the turbo petrol engine. Whereas, the turbo diesel gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic as an optional automatic transmission system.
