The Ford Endeavour is considered a premium full-size SUV in India. Although the SUV is not currently produced in India, it enjoys high demand in the second-hand car market due to its durable build quality and commanding road presence.

Ford Endeavour safety is backed by a 5-star ANCAP rating, providing strong protection both on busy city streets and off-road. What’s more, the SUV has performed particularly well in frontal and side impact crash tests.

Keep reading for a detailed look at Ford Endeavour safety, its NCAP ratings, and the full list of features incorporated in this SUV.

Ford Endeavour NCAP Safety Rating

The Ford Endeavour (Ford Everest in ANCAP markets) is rated 5-star by ANCAP (2022) across all specifications released from August 2022. For the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRU), and Safety Assist features, the vehicle received scores of 86%, 93%, 74%, and 86%, respectively.

The ANCAP rating of the Ford Endeavour is the result of tests on the Ford Everest. The manufacturer has provided evidence of the validity of this rating for the Everest by undertaking a technical verification that validated the transferability of all tests and that the safety of both vehicles is equal. The rating is compliant with the 2022 ANCAP test protocols and applies to the range of diesel RWD and 4WD models.

The key factors that contributed to the 5-star ANCAP safety rating of the Ford Endeavour:

  • The vehicle’s structure maintained its integrity during the frontal offset (MPDB) crash test at 50km/h.
  • Standard fitting of Dual frontal, Side chest-protecting, and Side head-protecting (curtain) airbags for all 3 rows of seats, in conjunction with Driver and passenger knee airbags and a centre airbag, contributes to a comprehensive passenger safety system.
  • The standard Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) comes fitted with functions for car-to-car and vulnerable road user impacts. The system also includes junction assist and AEB backover capability.
  • The standard fitment of Lane support systems, including Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), together with advanced blind spot monitoring and Speed Assistance Systems (SAS), supports the driver and contributes to overall driver safety.
  • Multi-collision braking, plus the availability of a rescue sheet, round off a complete package in terms of the Ford Endeavour’s safety performance.

Ford Endeavour Adult Occupant Protection Rating

The Adult Occupant Protection rating received a score of 32.99 out of a maximum of 38 points (86%) against the ANCAP 2022 protocols. Tests carried out included frontal offset (MPDB), full-width frontal, side impact, oblique pole, far-side impact, and whiplash.

Key points on the frontal tests:

  • Frontal Offset (MPDB)—50 km/h: Passenger compartment remained stable. Adequate protection for the driver’s chest and the front passenger’s lower legs. Good for all other critical body regions for both occupants. The vehicle was penalised 4.00 points for causing excessive risk to an oncoming vehicle.
  • Full Width Frontal – 50km/h: All critical body areas scored Good for the driver. All critical body areas for the rear passenger were scored as Good, except the neck, which scored as Adequate, and the chest, which scored as Marginal.
  • Footwell and Structural Issues: No collapse observed in the footwell or the rest of the car’s structure. No deduction for frontal offset testing for intrusion into the footwell.

Side barrier performance:

  • Side Impact (60km/h MDB): All critical body areas for the driver scored Good. A score of 6.00 out of 6.00 was achieved.
  • Oblique Pole (32km/h): The side impact into a pole produced Marginal chest protection, Adequate pelvis protection, and Good protection for all other body regions, including the head and abdomen.
  • Far Side Impact: The centre airbag performed well, providing the occupants with Good protection against head contact. Occupant-to-occupant contact was Good for vehicle-to-vehicle collisions and Adequate for vehicle-to-pole impacts.
  • Whiplash (Rear Impact): All 3.19 out of 4.00 possible points were awarded for Whiplash performance, with the front seat performing better than the rear seat.
  • Rescue and Extrication: The 2.00 points for the provision of a rescue sheet and door operability were awarded in full. 1.00 points were awarded for multi-collision braking.

Ford Endeavour Child Occupant Protection Rating

The Child Occupant Protection score was 45.66 out of 49 points (93%), reflecting both good dynamics and a good fit for Child Restraint Systems (CRS).

Dynamic performance assessment:

  • Frontal Offset Test: The protection provided to both the 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies was rated Good by the assessed body regions, with full points awarded.
  • Side Impact Test: Full points were awarded for both child dummies and all relevant body regions; protection was rated as Good.

Dynamic Test Results:

  • Frontal: 16.00/16
  • Side: 8.00/8

CRS fitting and on-board safety:

  • The Endeavour (Everest) is fitted with ISOFIX anchorages in the outboard 2nd-row seating positions, and all second- and third-row seats are fitted with a top-tether anchorage.
  • Fitting in the second-row positions showed the ease with which most child seats can be fitted, and only the installation of a Type A rearward-facing capsule cannot be fitted safely in the second-row centre or third-row positions.
  • The CRS fitting was rated 11.66/12, and on-board safety received 10.00/13 points.
