In recent years, most Indian car makers have jumped onto the EV bandwagon citing electric vehicles to be the way forward. On the other hand, India’s leading car maker, Maruti Suzuki, chose to play the waiting game. It unveiled the e Vitara, its first electric vehicle at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, almost six years after the Tata Nexon EV (India’s first mass market EV) was introduced in 2019.

Having taken its time, the expectations from Maruti Suzuki’s first EV are high. If you have been waiting for the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, then, here is everything you need to know about the compact electric SUV.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Variants

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be offered in three variants: Delta, Zeta and Alpha. According to reports, the base Delta variant of the SUV is expected to pack in most of the features that Maruti Suzuki will offer on the e Vitara, such as the dual screen cluster on the dashboard. Furthermore, the base variant is expected to be offered only with the smaller battery pack.

The mid spec Zeta variant is expected to gain a marginal number of additional features such as wireless charging and a rear parcel tray, however, we expect Maruti Suzuki to offer it with a choice between the two battery packs. Lastly, the top spec Alpha variant will pack in premium features such as ADAS, 360 degree camera and ventilated seats.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Expected Variants & Ex-Showroom Price
VariantExpected Ex-showroom Price
DeltaRs. 17 lakh (49 kWh)
ZetaRs. 18 lakh (49 kWh), Rs. 20 lakh (61 kWh)
AlphaRs. 20 lakh (49 kWh), Rs. 22 lakh (61 kWh)

Best Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Variant to Buy

All three variants of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will offer great value. Picking between the two battery packs, the smaller battery pack will cater to those who largely commute inside urban limits and sporadically undertake highway journeys. In such a case, the base variant will also offer great value as it is well equipped, and will appeal to those who want to buy the e Vitara on a strict budget.

The mid spec Zeta variant is perfectly suited for those who want a higher range, but don’t necessarily want the advanced safety features such as ADAS, which come at a hefty premium.

If you prefer a more feature rich experience, you can opt for the top spec Alpha variant. If your driving cycle involves regular highway journeys as well, we recommend you opt for the larger battery pack and pair it with the top spec Alpha variant, as this combo will offer the most value for your money.

Why should you consider the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara should be considered for the following reasons:

Muscular Design

Most budget EVs often mimic their ICE counterparts in terms of styling. The E Vitara, however, is an independent compact SUV and thus features its own radical styling. It stands out with its muscular body panels and aggressive stance which make it stand out. The closed off grille at the front and the triple LED headlamps give it a distinct visual identity as well. Furthermore, the e Vitara features prominent black cladding all around the car which give it a rugged appeal. At the same time, the aerodynamic alloy wheels give it a rather premium look too.

Feature Rich

Being Maruti Suzuki’s first EV, the Indian car maker has bestowed it with the latest features. Following the popular trend, the e Vitara features a 10.1 inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25 inch infotainment touchscreen, both of which are integrated in a single housing. Furthermore, there is an Infinity audio system onboard, the driver seat is 10 way power adjustable, the front seats are ventilated (cooled) and there is wireless charging as well. Lastly, there is a panoramic sunroof as well which uplifts the cabin ambience. Maruti has offered all the premium amenities that are expected in the segment.

Advanced Safety Tech

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is equipped with 7 airbags (including a driver knee airbag), a 360 degree surround view camera, ABS with EBD and TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system). The e Vitara also gets a Level 2 ADAS, which is a first for any Maruti Suzuki vehicle. By far, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara offers the most advanced safety tech of any Maruti Suzuki model.

Battery Pack Options

The upfront cost of buying an EV is more than the cost of a similar ICE vehicle due to the high cost of a battery pack. By offering two battery pack options, Maruti Suzuki offers buyers the option to choose one that suits their needs. Users who don’t require a 500+ km range can opt for the smaller battery pack. It not only reduces the upfront price of buying the e Vitara, but the reduction in weight also improves performance and reduces general wear and tear of the brakes and suspension components.

Why should you not consider the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Just like all cars, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will not suit everyone. Here’s why:

No AWD

If you are looking to buy an EV because of the performance they offer, then, the e Vitara might not be your cup of tea. Maruti Suzuki is only selling the FWD version of the compact SUV in India and while the performance on offer is good enough for everyday driving, it won’t compare well against the newly launched Tata Harrier EV’s AWD capabilities. There is an AWD version with a total torque output of 300 Nm which would do that, however, it is not available for the Indian market.

LFP Battery Pack

An LFP battery pack is something most buyers won’t even care about. However, if efficiency is what you desire, then, an LFP battery pack offers less energy density than a traditional lithium ion battery pack. In short, a bigger LFP battery pack is required to hold the same level of energy as a traditional lithium ion battery found in the e Vitara’s rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric.

Summary

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is the first electric vehicle by the Indian car maker. It offers a unique design, wide range of features, and a wide safety net that make it a great choice for everyday drivers. Compared to its rivals, the e Vitara does offer a lower performance standard. However, as an everyday driver, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara offers great value.
