The Kia EV6 is not the typical Kia car you see in IndiIn fact, it is an electric vehicle that is brought into the country via the CBU route and in limited numbers. While other Kia models showcase their ability to please mass-market buyers, the Kia EV6 is about showcasing the technology of the Korean car maker, especially on the EV front.
The Kia EV6 was first launched in India in 2022 and received a facelift in 2025. However, since the EV6 is a highly premium model and available in limited numbers in the country, we take a look at what makes more sense, buying the Kia EV6 new or looking towards the used car market to buy a second hand unit. In this article, we break down the financial aspects of buying the Kia EV6.
New Kia EV6 Quick Overview
The Kia EV6 is in its first generation, not just in India, but globally as well. In fact, the car is based on a new E-GMP platform that was pioneered by Kia and Hyundai to underpin their luxury electric vehicles. While the EV6 has been on sale in India since 2022, the model recently got a facelift in 2025. As the EV6 is a premium model, only a single fully-loaded variant is available.
The post facelift Kia EV6 is available with two electric motors as standard, one on each axle. This automatically makes it an AWD vehicle giving it better grip. The two electric motors are powered by a 84 kWh battery pack and the electric powertrain is capable of offering a range of 663 km as per ARAI tests. The real world range will be somewhere around 500 km. The electric motors have a combined power output of 325 PS and 605 Nm, giving the Kia EV6 a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.3 seconds. Furthermore, it can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW charger.
Key Updates of New Kia EV6
The Kia EV6 facelift is specced with top notch features such as 10 way power adjustable front seats, 64 colour ambient lighting, 14 speaker Meridian sound system, heated steering wheel, electric sunroof, head-up display (HUD), and even V2L support for powering small devices or even charging other electric vehicles.
The Kia EV6 is also specced with advanced safety features such as 8 airbags, ESP, Hill Start Assist, Front parking sensors and even Level 2 ADAS capabilities. The ADAS system incorporates emergency features such as AEB or Automatic Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance among others.
While the pre-facelift Kia EV6 was available in two variants, the post facelift Kia EV6 is available in a single top of the line GT Line AWD variant.

Used Kia EV6 Quick Overview
As we know, the Kia EV6 was first launched in India in 2022. While the model has always been a CBU (completely built-up) import, back when it was first launched, it was offered in two distinct variants. The first variant was the GT Line and the second one was the GT Line AWD. While the former was then priced at Rs. 59.95 lakh, the latter commanded a price of Rs. 64.95 lakh, both of which are ex-showroom.
They were priced Rs. 5 lakh apart with the major difference being that the GT Line was RWD and featured only one electric motor on the rear axle whereas the GT Line AWD, as the name suggests, sent power to all four wheels via a second electric motor on the front axle. In addition, the GT Line AWD variant also featured a head-up display, powered tail gate, body coloured automatic flush door handles and a 14 speaker Meridian sound system.
The pre facelift Kia EV6 also featured another big distinction from the post facelift EV6, and that is the battery pack. The older EV6 was powered by a 77.4 kWh battery pack (both variants). Apart from that, the front-end of the Kia EV6 including the headlight and bumper are different from the post facelift Kia EV6.

New Kia EV6 vs Used Kia EV6: Financing Comparison
In the table below, we will be taking a look at the difference when buying either a new or a used Kia EV6 by availing a car loan. We have taken the GT Line AWD variant in both cases to keep things fair. The cost of the second hand Kia EV6 from 2024 has been based on market trends and could differ.
The cost of a new Kia EV6 is close to Rs. 70 lakh whereby a one year older model is available for largely half that price. This is one of the better deals on the internet, however, it still gives a great look at how more expensive and premium cars lose their value quite quickly. When we use the same amount of down payment for both options with a 5 year loan tenure period. It becomes instantly clear that buying a used Kia EV6 makes more financial sense.
When you look at the total loan amount you will pay back over a period of 5 years via EMIs, it will be double of what you pay for a used Kia EV6 in comparison with a new EV6. That too, for a model year unit that is just one year old.
| New Kia EV6 | Used Kia EV6 (2024) | |
| Total Cost of Vehicle | Rs. 69.70 lakh (Mumbai) | Rs. 37.75 lakh |
| Down Payment | Rs. 10 lakh | Rs. 10 lakh |
| Loan Tenure | 5 years (60 months) | 5 years (60 months) |
| Loan Amount | Rs. 59,70,137 | Rs. 27,75,000 |
| Rate of Interest | 10% | 12.9% |
| Interest Amount | Rs. 16,40,683 | Rs. 10,04,820 |
| Total Paid | Rs. 76,10,820 | Rs. 37,79,820 |
The heavy depreciation that premium cars undergo in their first year means that buying a used Kia EV6, even though the rate of interest on the loan is higher, is a more financially sound decision than buying a new Kia EV6 through a car loan.
New Kia EV6 vs Used Kia EV6: Insurance Comparison
Insurance costs can vary greatly from broker to broker, and what’s more, it also depends upon the type of insurance you choose. Just to simplify things, it can cost close to Rs. 3 lakh for insuring the Kia EV6, depending upon the policy and add-ons you pick.
| New Kia EV6 | Used Kia EV6 | |
|---|---|---|
| Third Party Insurance | Rs. 20,907 (for three years) | Rs. 6,712 (for one year) |
An easier way would be to opt for third party insurance. The costs are given in the table above and are regulated by the government. However, the one downside is that in the event of a repair, you will have to pay for the damages to your car out of your pocket.
New Kia EV6 vs Used Kia EV6: Which to Choose?
Finally, having looked at the actual cost of buying a new Kia EV6 via a car loan compared to a used one, it is easy to understand that you will spend close to double on buying a new EV6 whereas a used one can be bought for half that amount. Furthermore, if you opt for third party insurance, you can further reduce the cost of ownership a couple of lakh a year. Therefore, if you are looking for a financially savvy way to buy the Kia EV6, we suggest you opt for a used car purchase instead of a new car purchase.
