The Tata Curvv EV came before the Tata Curvv into the Indian market, and as far as electric car sales are concerned, the Indian electric coupe SUV has found decent success. It looks eye-catching and offers almost everything an electric SUV of its price should. So far, the Curvv EV has been competing with some capable electric SUVs, such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV. Recently, the competition for the Curvv EV has increased with the arrival of the first Vietnamese electric SUV in India, VinFast VF6. Like Chinese electric cars, the VinFast VF6 is high on tech and offers a lot for not a lot of money. So, how does the Curvv EV look when it is pitted against the VinFast VF6? Here is a comparison of VinFast VF6 vs Tata Curvv EV, to find out what advantages they offer each other.

If we go by the measurements, the Tata Curvv EV is 69 mm longer and 22 mm taller than the VinFast VF6, while the VinFast VF6 is 24 mm wider and has a 170 mm longer wheelbase compared to the Curvv EV. Overall, the VF6 is more spacious for the rear seat passengers than the Curvv EV, while the Curvv EV offers a larger 500-litre boot space for their luggage. A key drawback of the Curvv is its sloping roofline, which eats up the headroom for rear passengers.

With its crossover design, the VinFast VF6 is an attractive electric SUV. It comes with VinFast’s signature ‘V Face,’ which is two LED DRLs running the width of the bonnet and slightly dipping at the nose with a ‘V’ logo in between them. The main headlamp cluster sits lower down on the bumper, which also houses a honeycomb-patterned air dam. Its side profile highlights 18-inch alloy wheels, and due to the angular bonnet, slightly sloping roofline, clean panels, and raked rear windshield, the VF6 almost looks like a Maruti Baleno from the side angle. At the rear, the VF6 has an eye-catching design with long horizontal LED tail lamps, which simulate the design of front DRLs, and due to the stepped tailgate and chunky bumper, it looks very sporty.

On the other hand, coupe SUVs are still not as common in India, and are eye-catching when seen on the road. Since the Tata Curvv EV is a beautiful coupe SUV, its design is one of its biggest strengths. Its face is much like that of the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Punch, especially due to their traditional LED light bar running the width of the bonnet. There is a closed-off grille, which houses the charging port behind the Tata logo, and a chrome-treated lower air dam. The main headlamp setup is positioned at the outer edges of the chiselled bumper. It impresses the most when viewed from the front or rear quarter, thanks to the coupe SUV silhouette that has a sloping roof line till the boot lid and rising belt line. Like the front end, the Curvv EV features a full-width LED light bar at the rear too; however, like all coupe SUVs, the Curvv EV lacks a rear wiper, and the raked rear end also means that rear visibility is not great from the inside.

The VinFast VF6 is more spacious than the Tata Curvv EV as far as accommodation of the rear seat passengers is concerned. Whereas the Curvv EV offers a larger boot than the VF6.

The VinFast VF6 is more powerful than the Tata Curvv EV, and as can be felt while driving the two back-to-back. However, a more important factor is the driving range, wherein the Tata Curvv EV variants equipped with the 55-kWh battery pack have a significant lead. Except for the base Creative variant, all variants of the Curvv EV are offered with the options of both battery packs.

In terms of ride quality, usually Tata cars are unbeatable. However, in this case, the VinFast VF6 delivers almost as good ride quality as the Tata Curvv EV. A key point to note here is that the VF6 weighs 2,028 kg and the Tata Curvv EV weighs 1,583 kg. Since the VF6 is heavier, its suspension has been tuned to withstand more weight.

Because of the options of two battery packs, the Tata Curvv EV offers more versatility. Moreover, in terms of range, the Curvv EV, with its larger battery pack, delivers a significantly longer range than the VF6.

On the inside, both VinFast VF6 and Tata Curvv EV look and feel premium; however, it is fair to say that the VF6’s interior simulates the ambience of a segment above. It is a minimalist interior setup, consisting of a clean dashboard that has a layered effect with leatherette treatment and brushed aluminium finish. A unique point of the VF6 is that it does not have an instrument cluster, and it features a heads-up display instead. The lack of an instrument cluster makes the dashboard look neat and uncluttered and gives a nice view of the road ahead. The head-up display projects the essential instrumentation information on the windshield, and the same information can be accessed on the right corner of the touchscreen infotainment system, which is oriented towards the driver’s seat and has most controls integrated into it, including the adjustment of ORVMs. Although there are some toggle switches under the touchscreens for a few controls, including the drive selection.

On the other hand, on the inside, the Tata Curvv EV is pretty much like most other Tata cars. Its clean dashboard is sharper-edged than that of the VF6. Moreover, it gets a textured trim at the bottom and two large screens on top. The Curvv EV shares its four-spoke steering wheel with larger Tata cars like the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier, and like most modern Tata cars, it features a gloss-black HVAC panel, which can be easily soiled. While the Curvv EV is less spacious than the VF6, its panoramic sunroof helps a lot in accentuating the sense of spaciousness. Moreover, since it is a sunroof, it can be completely slid open, while the VF6 has a fixed glass roof.

In terms of features, both VinFast VF6 and Tata Curvv EV are well-laden. Both are equipped with most modern-day amenities such as a powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, and more. However, the Curvv EV is a few steps ahead of the VF6 due to a powered front passenger seat, a powered tail gate with gesture control, and a panoramic sunroof that can be completely slid open. The advantages that the VF6 has are the dual-zone climate control and head-up display, which add to the modernity.

On the inside, the VinFast VF6 feels more premium than the Tata Curvv EV. Moreover, while both VF6 and Curvv EV offer many upmarket features, the Curvv EV scores higher on functionality due to the availability of the powered front passenger seat and powered tail gate with gesture control.

It offers more space than its rivals, and as far as driving range is concerned, it delivers enough for day-to-day driving in the urban areas. However, if you plan to take it outside the city, you might need some forethought. All the same, for its feature package, a cabin that is more spacious than that of the Tata Curvv EV, and its driving range, the VF6 can easily fit your bill if you are not afraid of going with a new and unfamiliar car brand.

All the same, the Tata Curvv EV comes from one of the largest car brands in India. This means it benefits from a wider service network and the affinity that buyers have for the Indian carmaker.
