Kerala issued over 1 crore traffic challans last year, which is 27,500 challans a day. Most of these vehicle challans are never handed over by a police officer on the road. These e-challans are recorded by AI cameras, linked to the vehicle’s number plate, and sent directly to the owner’s registered mobile number. This is how e challan Kerala works.

A bike challlan check in Kerala works the same way as a car challan check. With Spinny, you can do a challan check by entering your vehicle number and tap check challan. You can also use Parivahan challan Kerala services to search by vehicle number, challan number, or driving licence number. Since most two-wheeler fines are caught on AI cameras, you can also check challan with photo in Kerala to see the image of the recorded violation.
Two-wheeler riders are advised to check challan online regularly, as helmet violations are among the most common Kerala traffic challan offences. According to Kerala MVD data up to September 30, 2025, around 45.03 lakh cases were recorded against riders without helmets, plus 34.66 lakh against pillion riders without helmets and about 1.65 lakh for triple riding.
Different platforms can be useful depending on what you need to do. The MoRTH official eChallan website is Parivahan. Spinny also has a vehicle-specific version of features related to the settlement of overdue payments.

Don’t know how to make an online payment? You can also complete your e challan payment in Kerala offline by visiting the nearest traffic police station or RTO. Carry your challan documents, driving licence, and RC, pay at the counter, and keep the receipt as proof of challan payment. If you need help, some police stations also have e-challan facilities where officers can assist you in clearing your Kerala challan.
Also check the challan online to confirm the status of your challan pay. If your e-challan details show Court challan or Sent to court, then it can’t be paid at the counter. Such Kerala traffic challan cases are handled through the Virtual Court System. There, you need to search by challan or vehicle number and choose to pay or contest the fine
Paid your traffic challan but still shows pending? Challan pay can take upto few days to show up in track status. If your challan payment still doesn’t reflect in a few days, contact the platform you paid through with the transaction ID or raise a complaint on the Parivahan challan Kerala portal. Check below what your e challan details actually say:

Payment in Process | Payment received but still being verified. | Keep your receipt and check back in a few days. |
Paid / Disposed | The challan is settled and closed. | Download the receipt for your records. |

An incorrect challan was issued linked to your mobile number. If yes, don’t pay it yet. A wrong challan can happen due to a misread number, a cloned plate, or a violation recorded after you sold the vehicle. Review the details of the traffic challan carefully. Below are the steps to raise a dispute on the Parivahan portal:
Open the grievance page of the official Parivahan eChallan portal and verify using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Select the type of grievance that matches your issue, such as a wrong vehicle number or a wrong violation.
Upload the supporting evidence, such as photos and documents, or something that proves the challan was wrongly issued.
Attach copies of your driving licence and RC for verification.
Submit the dispute and track your grievance status.
You can also raise a complaint about a Kerala traffic challan through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) portal or the Kerala Police Thuna portal, using a similar process.
Vehicle owners are required to carry some documents while driving in Kerala. Valid or expired documents are not the same as breaking traffic rules. You need to carry these documents to avoid a Kerala traffic challan during a routine check:
Valid Driving Licence: You should have a valid driving licence.
Registration Certificate (RC): Proof that your vehicle is legally registered.
Active Insurance Policy: At least third-party insurance is mandatory, and driving with expired insurance can lead to a heavy fine.
Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate: Renew it on time, as an expired PUC is an easy way to get a challan.
You need to keep digital copies in DigiLocker or the mParivahan app, as these are accepted during routine checks. Keep all documents up to date, and do a regular e challan check in Kerala to make sure no fines are pending against your vehicle.
If a minor person is caught driving in Kerala, the vehicle challan will be sent to the registered number, and the parents or guardian are held legally responsible. According to Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, the guardian or owner is considered guilty unless they can prove the vehicle was used without their knowledge.
Fine for guardian or owner: Up to ₹25,000.
Imprisonment: Up to 3 years.
Vehicle registration: The RC can be cancelled for 12 months.
Licence for the minor: Not eligible for a driving licence until age 25.
Trial of the minor: Handled under the Juvenile Justice Act.
This is considered one of the heaviest penalties under the MV Act,and Kerala enforces it strictly, especially for underage bike riders
Traffic fines in Kerala are always linked to the vehicle’s registration number. This means when a used car or bike changes hands, any unpaid challans can become a problem for both the buyer and seller. A quick e challan check by vehicle number and paying it before closing the deal helps you avoid disputes and delays at the RTO.
Info | For Buyers | For Sellers |
Why check | Unpaid challans can hold up the ownership transfer at the RTO. | Clearing fines makes the transfer smoother and builds trust with the buyer. |
What to do | Do a vehicle challan check and ask the seller to clear dues or adjust the price. | Clear all pending fines before the sale and complete the RC transfer promptly. |
Risk if skipped | You may end up paying fines for violations you didn't commit. | Any Kerala traffic challan issued before the transfer may still come to you as the registered owner. |
If something's wrong | Ask the seller for payment receipts for any cleared challans. | If you get a challan dated after the sale, check challan with photo and raise a dispute. |
How Spinny helps | View all challan details in one place with Spinny challan check. | Complete the challan payment online in a few minutes before handing over the vehicle. |

An e-challan in Kerala is a digital traffic fine issued by the traffic police when a rule is violated - such as overspeeding, signal jumping, or missing documents. The system logs the violation and sends the challan details digitally, making e challan payment and tracking more convenient and transparent.
If you fail to pay your challan in Kerala, the traffic department may issue a virtual court summons. Unpaid challans can lead to late fees, licence suspension, or even vehicle seizure in Kerala. It's best to perform a challan check online and pay on time.
The e challan system in Kerala is fully digitized. Traffic violations are detected via CCTV or speed cameras, and the system auto-generates an e challan linked to your vehicle number. The fine details are updated in the database, and you're notified via SMS/email. You can then check your e challan and pay online through trusted portals.
Spinny provides its challan-payment flow through its website and app and supports common digital payment methods including UPI, debit/credit card, and net banking. Always access Spinny or the official government portal directly rather than following an unknown payment link received through an unsolicited message. Parivahan itself warns users about fraudulent websites and apps impersonating eChallan services.
